Game 5 - Jets @ Leafs - Wednesday Oct 19th 2011 - 19:30 EST - TSN 4-2 Win

They say good teams win games that they don't play well in...

That's a great way to look at it. Saving the "good team" for the 3rd though, is hard on the fans.

Leafs need to stick with that 3rd period groove throughout games. They dominate other teams when they play like that.

Good win for the Leafs! They are off to the same 4-0-1 start as last season! Great homestand - good to put some points in the bank for when things get tougher later on.

Well I certainly enjoyed that game. Steckel blows me away. it's ridiculous how often he wins the faceoffs and how cleanly.

Same comments as everyone else really: Kessel + Lupul equals great; Grabovski + Kulemin = where the hell are you?

They haven't been particularly bad, but they haven't been exactly awe inspiring. Time to put up some points!

I'm giving part of that win to Wilson, as he was the one making the decisions to move players up and down. He had to change his game plan almost all game, as players got hurt early and then some weren't playing well. He had to shorten his bench right up at the end there, because of shoddy play. To top it off, he obviously pick the right 3rd shooter to put the game in the bank.

So, good on Wilson.

So I missed most of the game.  Is there any explanation for Frattin in the shootout?  he had a good game?  getting rewarded?  I think it's great considering he scored the winner and perhaps his confidence will get a boost.

Sure, I'll go for that - good on him. He's taken enough fan beatings, have to give him a cookie once in a while.

If he'll just remember to prep these guys for the 1st period, I think we'd move forward quicker and keep confidence higher.

I've missed that last several (or more) pages so forgive me if it's been mentioned but Steckel... 16-2 tonight in the circle. I mean, holy cow!

Dion is up to 6 pts in 5 games.

I know Phaneuf worked on his shot accuracy, I wonder what else he and Kessel worked on.

The one-timer from Kessel to Phaneuf in the first game was nuts and so was the slap pass to one-timer tonight.

I remember when we were pretty much making fun of Kessel for having no one-timer on the PP (saying his kid-sized stick would snap if he tried).  I wonder if he worked on that because whatever one-time snap-shot he did there sure got top shelf in a hurry.

Agreed.  Credit where credit is due.

But of course, lots of us assistant coaches were telling him about that Steckel guy on the powerplay....  :P

He just made it to twitter, so we're asking a bit much for him to already be reading our blog.  ;D

Also give credit to Wilson on the Frattin choice in the shoot-out. He's been playing well but hadn't anything to show for it. The kid gets rewarded with the shot and gets the monkey off his back (though it won't show up as a "real" goal.)

I assume that's exactly it. Wilson had noticed Frattin's been buzzing around and figured if he could pot one in the shootout, it may start to put the wheels in motion.

Liked Ferraro discussing how Frattin was studying his monitor to watch Lupul's previous attempt to get any kind of read he could on the goalie's tendencies.
