Game 9 - Leafs @ Rangers - Thursday Oct 27th 2011 - 19:00 EST - 4-2 Win

Yeah, that Rangers offence looked hilariously bad tonight, and, from the looks of the numbers, they have all season so far. If they didn't have Lundqvist in net, they'd be hanging out at the bottom of the East.

Pretty solid 2nd and 3rd after a bit of a shaky first. Good game for Gustavsson. I'll take it.

Yup.

They looked really good in the second and third.  Really controlled the play.  Don't think the Rangers had too many chances or much sustained pressure the last 2 periods.

My Ranger friend is already saying they scored 3 tonight... Ugh

yeah ..i wonder what's up with richards...maybe just hasn't had the time to develop any chemistry?  you'd think richards and gaborik would be a no brainer wouldn't you?

Well, I'm going to give some credit where credit is due in my opinion: I thought Mike Komisarek played a very steady game - like the guy I thought we signed. A very simple game - no flash. Take the man, win the puck battle, chip it out to a safe place, etc. Good for him.

They out worked them. Played a little smarter. And the best Swedish goalie tonight played for us (I thought even the first one hit a player and knuckle balled though it was very stoppable).

A nice moment (but certainly not a gigantic moment) was when Schenn ventured deep behind the Rangers net and I wondered "did a Leafs forward cover Luke's point?" Camera pans back and there's Phil manning Luke's point. Not all the flashy guys in the league do it. Game after game this year, Phil is improving or proving himself defensively. It's only "a little thing" but as the cliche goes ...

We might excuse the good start to some easy opponents but that was a very legitimate and solid road win. Lundqvist was leaky but they still deserved full value for the two points.

The ticker said Sid won't be playing in their upcoming Pens game. Hopefully, they can keep this going as that will be another good test. Gus will be starting that game as well as
Reimer went on the IR until Sunday.
He could play against Ottawa

I think it's great to have our 4th line out to protect the lead  :D

I actually noted that to my son as well.  Dupuis, Brown and Steckel out there with less than a minute.

Sweet.

They each played between 10:40 and 12:56 mins - which is a fair amount for one of Wilson's 4th lines. That allowed the other lines to go a little harder when they were out and they did.

Steckel won 71% of his draws.

9 of the teams 15 hits were delivered by them

Brown handily won his fight.

They did the brunt of the PK and keep the Rangers 0-3

They weren't on the ice for a goal against while Brown chipped in a goal.

I'd say they weren't a bad choice to close it out. They kind of earned it.

Yep. This team is head and shoulders above the Leaf team even 2 seasons ago. I really have to give Burke kudos. I think we're starting to see the team he envisioned when he took over he GM job.

Missed you tonight, azzurri.  I really thought we were moving closer.

Wife took over the comp for a bit. Good road game. Thought we were kinda flat in the first but dominated after that. Weak goal by Gus in the first but he settled down and played good from then on. Reversal for Lundquist I thought it was going to be a tough night for us but he sucked on 2 or 3 of our goals. Take the 2 points. We are moving closer man.
