Most of it is a load of junk. He definitely has a bit of an ego about his game, but it honestly really isn't any different than 90% of players who have a lot of faith in their own abilities.  Again for some reason Kadri's is apparently this sin amongst men.

Sometimes I wonder if his race is a factor in the perception, E. Kane and Subban seem to face the same kind of criticism.

It's possible, but Patrick Kane and Tyler Seguin also received similar treatment over "off-ice" issues.

As did Mike Richards and his buddies in Philly (Carter, Lupul, Upshall). They got a bad rap for being known as the Legion of Poon in their day.

I feel the same about Kadri as I did Jason Allison when he played for the leafs.  If the leafs can stay in the offensive zone all the time then awesome give him the big contract and keep him.  I just think his defensive mindset is atrocious and it balances out all of the flash and pizzazz that he brings to the other end of the ice.

Ok, except Allison was 30 years old and defensive responsibility can often be one of the last things to click for a talented player's game.
So you're saying we gave up on Allison too early then  :D

To be honest, I wasn't big on Bolland when they acquired him.

He is capable of being a very useful player, but because of the amount of injuries he's sustained, I don't think you can look at him in the same way that you would someone who's had better fortune.

You'll never know what you're getting from him. Like, for the first 10 games of the season he was awesome, and then since coming back he's just been very off.

It was the same in Chicago. Back around the first time they won, he was considered such a valuable piece but by the time they reached last season most fans were ready to move on without him, Stanley Cup heroics notwithstanding.

Yeah, short memories.

Leiweke on Strombo last night.

Half of what he says makes me cringe, the other half makes me like the guy.

I'm torn.

It was based mostly on rumours and hearsay, which is similar to the type of issues attributed to players like E. Kane and Kadri.

But "it" in their case wasn't "they have bad attitudes/big egos" it was "they're staying out too late at the clubs".

Yeah I guess. Those Edmonton teams had offense AND defence.

Those teams were pretty mediocre in terms of GA. Lemieux's cup winning Penguins teams were downright bad.

"Defense wins championships" is just a cliche.

And 'offense wins championships' isn't. ???

it's hard to fathom...well not really I suppose in Toronto, that a guy who seems to have spun being so fortunate for being in the right place at the right time and scoring a Cup Winning goal is all of a sudden a Mark Messier leader.

He's consistently injured, not mentioning a pretty significant injury this season (and him dropping his talent level 10-15% is far more disturbing than a Karlsson dropping due to his achilles injury) that we still don't know how he will recover, his offence is probably topped out at 15g 15 assists because you're not getting 82 games out of him. He most certainly was not a significant cog on the last Cup team.

Would I like him on the team? Yes but not at 5-6-7 years at
anything over $3.5 to $4 and we all know that figure isn't happening so I say no to Clarkson v2.

I may get flamed here but if Komorov was a centre (can't recall) I think he's far more durable, a better PK guy, all heart and annoyance plus may well get 10g 15a in a more
significant role. And probably at $2-$2.5.

I also say this knowing that we are just not getting a stud #1 centre so Bozak is it. I very much like Kadri despite RC trying to mess with him. So we're looking at Bozak #1, Kadri a #2, Character guys at #3 and #4 that I think can be a Marlie or obtained - without paying a #3 $5 mil.

But of course they're will be an earthquake clamour to blow
the Cap by signing Bolland. We almost deserve what we get.

I'll flame you.  Komorov is being a little over rated here.  He is a good 4th line player, but I'd rather not elevate him beyond that until he proves he is worth it in the NHL, which he hasn't yet.  But if we need a center, we paid multiple picks for Holland, who has dominated the AHL. Let's give him a shot.

You know what helps a team's defensive game more than anything else? Keeping the puck in the offensive zone. I mean, they might say "defence wins championships," but they also say "the best defence is a good offence."

You're right. I completely forgot about Holland. To be fair I did say a Marlie could be the #3 or #4... ;) :D

Roll your eyes all you want, but, nothing helps a team's defensive game like not having to play defence.
