Can someone explain to me what Carter Ashton is?  Is he skill or muscle?  He doesn't seem to be good at either.  Am I missing something?

Did we really trade Joe Colborne away (in part?) to keep this guy?

Did we really wait so long to trade away this guy?

Hey leave Home Alone, alone...anyone who looks like a grown up version of that kid and is trying his guts out...you gotta give some leeway to.  He is heads and shoulders ahead of where he was last year. I have never seen such drastic improvement in one year...I was ready to send him off planet last year.. so Eakins must have worked some magic on him.

I don't understand why Calgary bothered to trade for him if he's going to get no ice-time between fighters.  Obviously he's not going to produce in that role, so what's the point in killing anything he brings to the table?  Odd, odd decision.

He was Burkies boy and we needed some cap relief and a draft pick is better than nothing on waivers...elementary my Dr. Mr. Potvin

No offense, but he brought next to nothing to the table other than he's tall. He was a giveaway machine.

Most players who want the puck also give it away a lot.  Never really got a chance to say one way or another what he could have brought, played him crap minutes with crap players.  Did all the right things in the minors.  Never was put in a position to play well here.  Somehow he was good enough to play in the playoffs last year but not good enough to play this season.  Pre-season is a crapshoot, he's a better option than most anyone on the Marlies to play on this team.

Only in Toronto do we get up in arms about minor leaguers or fringe players.

He didn't pan out and chances are very low he'll amount to much more than a 3rd liner at this point.

Not up in arms at all.  Just discussing this transaction in the context of a team up against the cap, in injury trouble, and in need of forwards who can do more than fight and hit.

Colborne is an exclusively skilled player who didn't fit the Leafs ideology of what a 4th line player should bring. Therefore, there wasn't a spot on the team unless he was going to knock off Kadri or Bozak.

Ashton reminds me more of a Colby Armstrong type (who, keep in mind, used to be a decent player). Probably bulkier though.

Colby didn't lose his edge because of the Leafs.

Liles is Burkies boy too, can he do us a favor and take his crappy contract that he signed off our hands?

Carlyle has some very good things to say about Bolland in his post game press conference. It sounds like he will be an important addition to the club.

To be honest, when they first traded for Bolland I wasn't sure if he would be much more than a 1 year rental (seeing as how he's an upcoming UFA), but he has been very good.

I like him as an all-purpose 3rd line center who's good at doing most things.

I know Leaf fans get accused of thinking they?re the center of the hockey universe but that was the biggest goal of Dave Bolland?s career.
