It was mostly in jest, but Clarkson is what, 29? If you're rebuilding, you'd think he'd sign a core young guy to that kind of term.

I don't see how it's an either/or sort of thing.

I suppose not if you're going to dismantle a team that is close to contention. But MLSE probably also see's this team as close to raking in a lot of playoff revenue, I would think it would be a difficult sell for Nonis to go in there and ask ownership if they can now rebuild, regardless of how he intends to do it.

So Bernier will wear #45 for the Leafs. Should we read anything into that or do you figure Fraser said; 'Sure, take it.'

Fraser probably gave it to him, because I think Fraser is getting signed either way, right? I doubt it was stolen from him, unless I'm understanding the arbitration situation wrong.

Let's wait and see if Fraser is even provided an opportunity to care... He has worn #6 and #2 before as well...

My guess is Fraser only wore 45 because it was the number the Leafs assigned to him.

That makes sense to me. I guess while most players probably care, some might not.

I heard he's taking #2.  For a d-man, a pretty solid choice.

That seems like an "unlikely-to-be-cut-by-the-team" number for a d-man.

I don't know, what screams stay-at-home defenseman more than #97?

Nonis might be getting a new contract soon?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-15/former-anschutz-boss-charts-leafs-victory-parade-route.html

Leiweke said he is gathering the building blocks to an eventual Stanley Cup-winning Leafs squad. A key component will be general manager Dave Nonis, whose contract is being renegotiated, he said.

?We?ll probably have some news on that very soon,? Leiweke said. ?I?m a big Dave Nonis fan, and I want a culture here that is different than the one I stepped into.?

BCE Inc. (BCE) and Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI/B), Canada?s two largest telecommunications companies, acquired control of Maple Leaf Sports in 2012 to add hundreds of hours of programming they can sell to sports fans on their smartphones and tablets. The two companies together generated profit of C$4.32 billion ($4.14 billion) last year.

Having to answer to the chiefs of two publicly traded companies is a change from Anschutz but one Leiweke says he?s happy with.

?Our owners know we?ve got to be patient and stop knee-jerking like we have in the past,? he said.

Sure, whatever, it's just money.

How many years are left on his contract though? Just the one? Ideally I think it would be smart to see how things go in this season, as it's the first full one with him as GM and he's finally put his stamp on the team. But if it's just one year left then I understand. It's common practice to not let a GM or coach go into a season with just a year left.

"I want a culture different than the one I stepped into" ??

What does he mean by that? Is this a shot at BB?

I think it might be a shot at Rogers and Bell about the dismissal of Burke.
