Getzlaf signs extension with Anaheim

Always nice to get yet another reminder as to why Burke was fired.

Wait, so are you saying that the strategy of waiting for top players to fall into your lap wasn't a great one?

To quote a great man: The waiting game sucks, let's play Hungry, Hungry Hippos

"The Trade deadline is our draft." - Swing and a miss. - "I get the sense our group(GM's) make more mistakes on this day than all the others combined."

"July 1st is our draft." - Swing and a miss. - "I get the sense our group(GM's) make more mistakes on this day than all the others combined."

What a dick.

Pretty sure he never said anything like that.
My recollection might be off, I'm pretty certain he had the same post event analysis for both though, which in itself is contradictory and smacks of someone making excuses.

I don't think so either, but the other three quotes are all accurate.

He said this about the draft? - "I get the sense our group(GM's) make more mistakes on this day than all the others combined."

Those quotes are referring to the trade deadline and July 1st.

Oh, whoa, totally misread the initial post.  Disregard, silly mistake.

Finally all those fans who had pipe dreams of him leaving sunny cali for here can have a dose of reality.

Yes it would have been nice to see him come here but the chance of that happening was pretty much zip, especially with the start to the season they have had down there. Perry will want close to that himself so it will be interesting to see what they do with him. Hard to lock up over 25% of your cap space on two players no matter how good they are but i guess we shall see.

I suspected that Getzlaf was never a serious UFA candidate and I think they will regret his contract very soon. He's had a bounce back year points wise (may be attributable to his contract year - funny how that works) this year but trending down in points otherwise slightly..

Does give me hope for Perry though!

I honestly thought he'd give them a bit of a discount. Guess not.

I think more and more people are starting to think that this ends without Perry re-signing as well.

They have the cap space to sign Perry. Selanne isn't going to be around forever, but you have to think that they won't have the internal budget to fit him in at 8.25 or so...

They could also trade Hiller if they think Fasth is the real deal. And/or maybe Bobby Ryan could finally pack his bags. I think it's possible to keep Perry in Anaheim without completely destroying their depth. Especially since the cap won't stay at $64.3mil forever. Like you said though, it will all come down to whether or not the owners want to commit to two players like that.
