Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

Highlander said:
this team has some chemistry for the first time since Gary Roberts was on the team...I really hope they don't mess with it,  as we know....its very hard to find.
I think you are right and it is sort of surprising to me that it is so difficult to get everyone on the same page.  I can only infer that it has something to do with the work ethic of this particular group, lack of egos and a team-first mentality that the previous groups did not have.  This would be a perfect group for Sundin to have been associated with and the exact person that we need as 1C just 10 years too late.

I'm really hoping Nonis is just seeing where this team is.  The fact that he didn't rush out and try to get Luongo at any cost gives me some confidence that it's his approach.  If as the GM, he told ownership that he believes the Leafs are a bubble team, or slightly worse than a bubble team, there's no reason to try and make a move right now.  Let's see what we have already in the system (i.e. Scrivens more games, Rynnas as backup) before we make any rush decisions on goalies.  The Leafs are playing well right now, no need to try and bring someone in.  I think that's a decision to be made over the summer or into next season.  Hopefully Reimer gets back soon and is able to play a majority of the games down the stretch.  I think we'll know what we have at that point.

Some possible goaltending candidates should Reimer be out for an extended period....

jonasTSN1050: Reimer update: MCL knee strain. Expected to be out for a minimum of one week.

If that's it, that's not so bad.

good news. I hope he comes back playing as well as he left...

That's the real trick. Last year an injured completely derailed him, but that was, of course, a head injury. Hopefully the outcome is different with this one.

Minimum 1 week.  Hope that means he can be back for either Tuesday or Thursday next week.  Leafs play back to back Mon/Tues in Florida.  They could really use Reimer back.

Reallistically it will be 2 weeks, so he would miss 6 games.

Thu 14 Feb at Carolina
Sat 16 Feb Ottawa
Mon 18 Feb at Florida
TUe 19 Feb at Tampa
Thu 21 Feb Buffalo
Sat 23 Feb at Ottawa

This is doable with Scrivens and Rynnas. If we go 3-3 this strech, it would be perfectly fine, the Leafs can afford even 2-3-1 or 2-4 record.

No rush move (giving up kids/picks for veteran goalie). Ben or Jussi may actually surprise as Rynnas should get at least one game (either Florida or Tampa game), let?s see what we have.

When it's said a minimum of 1 week, does that mean he'll be completely off the ice?  If so, how long after that would he need to get to the point where the fear of him re-aggrevating it is minimal?

Why would we aquire a goalie when Reimer will be back soon and Scrivens is capable of starting a couple games until then?

If the injury is serious how about Alex Auld? I checked and he is playing in the Australian Hockey League at the moment.

You mean the "Austrian" Hockey League!  I would probably qualify to be a starting goalie in the Australian league, if there even is one.

I think that means the full duration he would be out and back playing again.

I'm sure they will give him 2-3 days off and see where the injury is at, then back on the ice after that for practices until he's ready again.

If it truly is a strain, it shouldn't take long at all to get back.  Also, this is better news than if it had been a groin injury.  A LOT better.

I don't know.  Kiprusoff also has an MCL strain and Calgary just said he'll be out an additional 2 weeks.  Granted he's a lot older and may take longer to recover but still it's too early to say if Reimer will be back fast.

Well, even if he's off the ice for the full week, it'll only take a couple days after that for him to be ready. My guess is his ETA is somewhere in the 10-14 days range.

It also depends on the severity of the strain. From what I can tell, Kipper's is more serious.

Scrivens will hold the fort, so this is not a worry. Like the coach said, next...... Enter Scrivens... and bring on car...
