So the conundrum is back right?
For now.  I am hopeful that Reimer will regain his form.

The form he had for a couple of months one year?

I don't really get the high expectations with him.  It's fine to be hopeful I guess, and he may be the best we have right now, but I can't see any reason to believe he'll be very good.
yes, for now he's the best we've got. I would much rather have him than trade away our prospects for Luongo.

Better than Scrivens?? How so?  If your referring to the let down game on Long Island, a game that he looked solid in for the first half and then the whole team packed it in for the second half then please don't.  Leaf exhaustion, crazy travel, alternating home and away dates, bad bounces, a young team coming  back down to earth whatever it is, I don't get my panties in a knot for that isolated performance.  Let's see how it all unfolds from here on out.  I still send Scrivens out for the bulk of the games at this point in the season.  Reimer has to earn my trust back and I ease him into the picture, much like RC has done and hopefully will continue to do.

No offense, but have you watched the two goalies this year?Scrivens looked bad last game. So did the team, but once he let a few bad ones in, the team just deflated. Reimer looked pretty good for the most part against Pittsburgh. Tonight should be the litmus test for James. I'm pulling for him. Scrivens has already lost my support. Maybe he can turn it around, but I'm not counting on it. At this point I'd like to see Rynnas come up for a shot at backup.

I haven't missed a minute of any game this year.  Talk of Scrivens being shaky in those first two games, remember he did allow just 3 goals in those two games. I can chalk that up to some nerves and the transition of jumping from the speed difference of the AHL to the NHL.  This is a rookie goalie playing in a Toronto market for a bad team.  Expect some growing pains because they happen.    He had one bad game so what, give him some leeway here, the league has been riddled with poor performances from great goalies in the early going this year.  Maybe Scrivens isn't the answer but to give up on him after one start is ludicrous.

Even with last season he was still sitting around a .918 SV% at even strength (was .933 or so the previous season), and it is arguable that the injuries attributed to it falling (as of January 2012 his EV SV% was actually better than the previous season, before falling back).

So I think that if the Leafs can get on top of the issues on their PK, then you will hopefully see Reimer's PK SV% jump from the .760 SV% range, and then see his overall numbers look better as well.

He seems to be our best bet right now, and arguably not a bad bet.

I truly think Reimer is the best goalie on the team and he should be given the reins from here on. Is he good enough to lead this team going forward? I don't know, but he's the best option for right now.

Fair enough, and I do think he will be given a few more starts to prove himself. He needs to rid himself of the nerves and confidence issues, and maybe he can settle in as the backup. As I've said, I'm not counting on it, but it would be nice to see him rebound.

I have been hard on Reimer but he certainly seems to be back and is playing well. The stats are nothing to get excited about but clearly from watching his play the stats simply do not tell the story.  Great to see the kid rebound and he looks like he will only get better.  With the compressed schedule I hope they don't burn him out though and RC will need to have Scrivens spell him on occasion.

I just watched the post-game interview on TSN and is Reimer ever not smiling?

For some reason reminds me of Cujo. I hope he keeps it up! He's been pretty solid thus far.

so far I would say, Reimer is back. lets hope he can keep it going, and pull his team into some uncharted water.

Claude Loiselle was interviewed on TSN1050 just now.  Made some "interesting" comments about the goaltending, and specifically the coaching of Rick St. Croix.

Basically he said St. Croix is "easy going" and doesn't try to ostracize the goalies.  Said when goalies are in the minors they don't tend to get as much attention and closely followed as they are in the NHL, and don't get "singled out" but instead are more part of the team.  They're involved in team practices and watching what's going in during the penalty kill.

Now I say these comments are interesting because it sounds to me like he's highlighting how different St. Croix's approach was to Allaire.  We all heard the stories about Allaire not getting along with other coaches and segragating the goalies from the rest of the team during practices.
