Apparently Wilson hasn't decided his starter for Calgary. I'm praying this is just a media tactic.
At this point I really don't know with him. I would have thought starting Gus on Saturday was an almost automatic decision, given Reimer's erraticness and Gus comparative consistency (not to mention the fact that probably the most important Swedish hockey player in history was being honoured). But Wilson seems to be guided by his own metric. And if we let the results speak for themselves, it appears he does so to a fault.
I don't know, I find it pretty logical figuring out who is going to start - most people on here seem to guess correctly most times, or it is usually the goalie they think should start.
I would imagine Gus starts. If I'm wrong I guess throw all that out the window, along with the bathwater (but keep the baby).
I've given up trying to guess what Wilson would do. He sits Reimer against Winnipeg where even Reimer himself said he was disappointed not to play, then he sits Gustavsson on Mats Sundin night where I would have thought for sure Gus would get the start.
We don't have a clear cut #1, so there are always going to be disagreements and some surprises about who starts until someone breaks away from the other for good.
This is true, but his choices for starting goaltender in the last few games has been questionable at best.
After the back to back shutouts, Reimer wasn't particularly good in the Edmonton win, the Leafs just managed to outscore the Oilers, but then the next time in a game where Reimer would have been motivated to play in his home province he sits.
Back to backs, ok it's understandable, but Gustavsson starts the Winnipeg game, plays fairly well in only allowing 2 goals and makes a number of big stops in the 3rd to give the Leafs a shot at tying up the game.
Wilson then goes BACK to Reimer, who once again has an average game at best in a loss.
Then we have last Saturday. We have 2 recent Reimer starts which are average, (both losses), a Gustavsson start which was good in a loss, and it's Mats Sundin night, a Swedish hero. Who do you start the swedish goalie was was fairly good in his last start or the non swedish goalie who's been fighting the puck the last 2 games?
I suppose Wilson was playing a "hunch" in starting Reimer, his hunch was 100% wrong.
