Goaltending conundrum

I give Gus the reins for the next 4 games, no matter what, and see what happens on the home stand.  I am not that down on Reimer -- he's had a fits and starts season and I think will bounce back at some point.  But Gus got on a roll in January and Reimer has not been able to since coming back from his concussion.

Hard to defend this after tonight but I'm sticking with it.  This bouncing back and forth between goalies is not working.

in 2009 Burke shored up his goaltending at the deadline by picking up Gerber when there was nothing to play for. Now, with the season on the line, will he make a move for a goaltender?

That also highlights the common denominators in all those late season runs of wins - solid goaltending.  Aubin, Gerber, Giguere, Reimer...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the Leafs aren't re-signing Gustavsson this off season.

“We are not looking for a goaltender at this point.” - Brian Burke, February 20, 2012.

Supporting the goalies in public for the media's consumption.  Any GM would do the same.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that the goaltending issue will be addressed in some fashion before this Monday at 3pm.

Might not be so easy. It doesn't look like there's much available in terms of goaltending right now. A trade to bring back Giggy would be ideal but he has a year left on his contract so I doubt Colorado is looking to dump him.

Two of the goals Gus let in were brutal. But the guy is cold. It seems he is the type of goaltender who needs steady work. He still had brilliant stretches in the game. Give him the next couple.

Gus needs to play a stretch of games for him to get better.  Of course, if one's goaltenders have a tendency to go "cold" even if they don't play for say 3-4 games, that's not the mark of a steady, ready goalkeeper.

I am getting really frustrated with both Reimer and Gus

Hopefully Burke can acquire someone....  but if not....

We should call up the hottest Marlie and give him a shot

Owuya??  Scrivens??  Rynnas ??

Thots?

Bishop is a UFA at seasons end.  Not sure I'd give up anything of significance.

Although, it would be nice to get a preview of what he could do.  Much like what Ottawa-Colorado did last year when they swapped Anderson for Elliott.  It worked for Ottawa.

Bishop or Harding are 2 guys I'd target this summer.  I imagine they won't re-sign Gus.

I don't think any team will sign Gus to be honest, he's going back to the SEL

You never know.  He's still young enough, healthy (unlike, say, Pascal Leclaire) and was fairly highly touted for a while.

Someone took a chance on Brian Elliott this passed summer.  It wouldn't shock me to see someone give Gus a chance.
