In my eyes Burke losses all credibility when he say things like 'Reimer is the real deal' and is already planning on having him in his top 2 next year.

Am i the only one that thinks that Reimer looks like a  peewee house league goalie who is playing that position because he isn't a good enough skater?  I am not a goalie scout but I notice so many weaknessess in his game. It always looks like it takes such an effort to move side to side or up and down.  There is nothing about Reimer that screams natural goaltender.

I am certain that he is going to be the next Justin Pogge and will be buried in the minors in a couple years while Gustavsson will go on to thrive with someone like Detroit.

Sorry Burke, but Reimer is not and will never be the goalie you may think he is.

i called it...

You called the team. It's the thriving part that made Toronto give up on him. I'd like to see him play well, but would be pretty pissed if he thrived.

Oh he will thrive.  He may even be the starter at some point and win cups with Detroit.  No guarantee of course, but faaaaar more likely than being in the dumps on Toronto.

For the Leafs to do well they depend on average or below average players to have career years and superhuman efforts in every game.  There's no system, no plan, no blueprint.

Detroit on the other hand has the right mix of smart veterans, young talent, intelligent coaching, development and scouting staff that infuses their team with a constant stream of success.

Gus saw that and made an intelligent decision by signing with Detroit after being seduced by Burke to sign with the stupidest and most incompetent team in the league.

Welcome to the site.  You've made a few nice posts but seem to have settled in nicely with the bitter Leaf scepticism that passes for wit in many corners.  How about letting the Monster play a bit in Detroit before concluding the Leafs ruined him.

Brodeur's best playoff save percentage was .938.  The Devil's lost the series 4-2.  Although his save percentage might of been down (.917), the game they played might of been a little more open but got them 14 wins.  Leafs would be lucky as hell to give it a shot for a year or two with him in net.

I agree.

Couldn't find a better mentor for the younger goalies than Brodeur.

Brodeur just signed with New Jersey for 2 years at $4.5 million per season.

It's too bad.  The Leafs are unpredictable and weak in goal.  We need a goalie badly.

Yes we do.  And his name is Boberto.

No, no. This guy has all the answers. Clearly Detroit has only successes and never has any failures.

I find this absolutely hilarious. A year ago we were singing his praises and after one bad year after a possible concussion we criticize Burke for NOT kicking Reimer to the curb? We've given Gus so many chances and now you're bitching that Burke made the wrong choice? If he gets traded you'd have had the exact same response, and say "Oh, we gave up on Reimer, we backed the wrong guy in Gus" so really it doesn't matter, or you would've used the whole "Allaire ruins goaltenders" BS (hey look, Raycroft can't even hold it together in the minors. ON DALLAS. ALLAIRE MUST ALSO BE DALLAS' GOALIE COACH!), or any other stretch and twist of logic to rationalize your point.

And at any rate, how could you be ok that Reimer could be traded when he's shown more than Gus in fewer games? That kind of a stance is just nonsense. Maybe Reimer needs more time in the A but I think it's ridiculous you'd rather give up on a kid that put together a pretty good half season and a poor half season at 22-24, over a guy who, if you actually watched the games, would let in perfectly stoppable shots on a regular basis and is 4 years older. Gus played unremarkable hockey in the SEL until he reached 07/08. Reimer's been putting up pretty good numbers on poor teams since junior, so you tell me who's the more "natural" goaltender, Mr. Goalie Coach.

Raycroft is a UFA.  We could bring him back for the number 1 job.  This time it won't cost us Rask.

Going over the rice paper thin list of UFAs and assuming we're looking for a veteran on a one year deal, what about  (don't laugh now) Curtis Sanford? I was surprised to see that he had a 2.60 GAA and a .911 pct in 36 games for Columbus no less last season. I don't know, throw him in to the Reimer/Scrivens cocktail and see what happens.

We aren't going to win the cup next year, nor contend for it, let Reimer and Scrivens battle it out and see what happens, if by mid season neither look prepared for the task, look for a back-up or wait for the off-season.

Eff it then... Roll with Reimer and Scrivens and hope they're either good enough to get us the 8th spot (or higher) or bad enough to get us 15th.

Let's shoot for the moon!!!!  ;)

I was talking about the conference... But 30th overall would be um, okay too?  :-\

I dunno, can we take one more year of complete suckage? Supposedly the "next Crosby" is in next summer's draft, what better way to get your franchise center?  Let's go for dead last!

I can take another year... Provided we do it right this time. That said, I'm happier with 8th or higher.

With the Leafs luck I could see them finishing dead last, and then losing the draft lottery and picking 2nd.
