Idiocracy 2024

The thing I am most content with is that Trump acknowledged that "people" don't have the appetite to do what it takes to acquire Canada.

It's a line he repeated again today, saying he would love to see Canada join the union. But he seemed to acknowledge it would be a long shot, saying some unnamed people don't have a threshold for pain.

A economic union between Canada-USA-Mexico wouldn't be a bad idea. Mexico would benefit from sharing a currency with the USA, and Canada would benefit as well. I would just be very hesitant having America in charge of Canada's fiscal policy.

The human mind wants four things;

1)Approval from others
2)Control of people, places and things
3)Safety/Security
4)Separation/Oneness

These things operate in varying degrees in different people.

May I suggest two books that look at what makes the world tick, as well has how your own mind ticks;

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
The Sedona Method by Hale Dwoskin

If you have a Spotify account, The Power of Now audio book is available on there included in your subscription.

I think he's moved on that from that honestly. He's stopped referring to Trudeau as "Governor Trudeau" and actually called him Prime Minister in his latest post. He just wanted to take credit for the border security initiatives that were already announced back in December, because you know, he wasn't president when they said that. He's like a child, you tell him he won something and he's easily pacified.
I would believe that if he didn't float the idea of annexing Canada yet again yesterday in between phone calls. Nothing is off the table with an erratic, irrational and narcissistic actor.

A shared currency would be useful, but, beyond that, no thank you.

And therein lies the problem. This isn't the EU comprised of many different member states that went to war with each other every generation or two. Close economic integration was the pretext to keep Europe from continuously disintegrating into war. We don't have that impetus, and being beholden the way we have to the US is too much already. They could easily use that as a pretext for more, and frankly I don't want to give them that opening, besides the fact that it'd be a grave mistake to give up fiscal policy & sovereignty. It's not worth the trade off if we're to continue being a truly sovereign country.

You basically said what I was thinking in the most concise way possible :)

Also one could easily argue that having USMCA/NAFTA is akin to having an economic union to a degree. These agreements over the years have integrated our economies like no tomorrow.

Agreed. I think it's more that he recognizes it's not in his benefit to try to force the issue. Quite frankly, bringing us in with full representation and all would be detrimental to his version of the GOP, as we'd essentially be a second California - we have a similar population, so we'd get similar electoral college votes, seats in Congress, and be a Democratic stronghold (considering a typical election here sees ~60% of the votes cast for left of center parties). It would be the death knell for the MAGA movement (which is why some of the MAGA talking heads have started pivoting to treating us more like Puerto Rico).
