The Simpsons called this (tendency of Republican voters) like 20+yrs ago. They may be evil, but I need a tax cut... Votes Repub.

Nah, this is something else. This is giving a rubber stamp to outright white supremacists like Steve King and people actively seeking to disenfranchise black voters.

There's really no two ways about it any more. America is now a country with one political party trying to win elections and another political party trying to prevent elections.

They also 'neglected' to provide power cables for voting machines in the less-white districts, leading to longer lines and wait times.

Out: Jeff Sessions
In: Matthew Whitaker

His first act was to appoint himself to directly oversee the Mueller probe.

You might remember Whitaker as the guy who wrote this: Mueller's investigation of Trump is going too far

You also might recognize him as the individual who does not meet the criteria to be nominated for Interim SOS.

You need to be in a pre-vetted position and Chief of Staff does not require congressional approval (nor did he get it).  The policy is you need to nominate Rosenstein to the position, put someone else from your cabinet who went through the vetting process or get someone vetted before they can be put in.

So, the White uploaded a doctored video of Jim Acosta's interaction with the white house intern.

Multiple fatalities in a Pennsylvania synagogue shooting today.  I wonder what American political ideology the shooter is a fan of.

This one hit a little too close to home. I have friends whose families are members of that congregation, a friend who has led services for them on the High Holidays, and another who worked with their youth group.
To ask a question that might make this comment worth your time, at what point does the straw break the camel on Trump's lies? He calls for bipartisan condemnation of a bomber who targeted pretty much every individual American he's spent years fostering animosity towards, obviously midterm damage control. But the defence of Charlottesville, blind ignorance to certain chants, where's the last straw when people have no choice to admit it's so mother******* obvious what he's doing and why, that people have to admit they're supporting overt, virulent racist rhetoric, and things like delusional narcissists shooting up places of worship and making bombs in their van down by the river is not an unexpected side-effect to this: it's the historical standard.

Unfortunately, as we've seen from history, the people who support won't be able to place the blame on him until he no longer holds power.
Step 1: admit there's a civil war taking place in America.
Step 2: subpoena Trump's tax records and multiple sexual assault allegations, which our friends can actually do now.
Step 3: consult German history. Owning mistakes is generally a great way to move on from colossal fuckups.

This is what Rome on fire looks like.
Aren't Georgia and Florida getting recounts? I'm not disputing the last death of the British empire, but there's still some hope on that one front.

Eh, we are just seeing progression of something that has gone on for decades.  The number of suppressed votes in Georgia would have had this election firmly in Abrams? hands let alone a recount.  Hard to call an election fair when you have the guy running making rules to bar votes from his opponents

Yeah, but, as I said, that's generally the type of insights people on the wrong side of things don't have until after they're no longer in charge. Subpoenaing Trumps tax returns might give the Democrats some ammunition, but Trump supporters won't care what they say.

I thought that was being called into question. Gerrymandering aside, there is grounds for a recount, isn't there? I thought that was happening.

If Don Jr. is telling friends he might get indicted, and there is already empirical proof of Russian money laundering through Trump properties going back as far as the Reagan administration, not to mention that he walked into office with multiple sexual misconduct allegations... i'm not saying you're wrong, but at some point who supports whom should give way to facts and response. It's hard to give meaningful support to a guy in prison.

My guess is that's the last chapter of the civil war, for better or worse. But it's hardly a situation contingent on the acts being over, as you say. There's plenty to do in the present, and were i still an American resident, i'd be hellbent on pointing that out. With the house, things can be brought to light. Mueller's report is due any day now, isn't it? This is more than ammunition, it's bona fide.

The supporters of this malignant narcissist can do what they want, and it won't matter.

Forgive any typos. German mobile keypad.

News flash he didn't pay any taxes because he didn't have to under existing rules and regulations.

Hello Wisconsin!
I was going to do a riff on That 70's Show theme song ('They're all Alt-Right!'), but it got rough really quick and didn't want it to accidentally turn into an anthem.

These are (affluent, male) kids, but it's a whole class (of 2019 per the correction in thread), and this photo was taken (and therefore implicitly condoned) by parents.

Bye, college acceptance letters!

Sure, once it legitimately starts crumbling, more and more people will be able to acknowledge what we see now. But, as long as the lies and everything else benefits them, as long as they're still getting positives out of them, they're not going to stand up to it or admit their part in what's going on (if they can ever really admit their part it in). Even when things are brought to light, those in power will do everything they can to remain in power. That's the nature of humanity, unfortunately.

As for the Mueller report, there's no due date attached to it. There's word he and his team are working on something to present in the near future, but, they haven't really given a time frame.

This is in no way a defense of Trump, who as always is venal, corrupt and morally repugnant in addition to being a two-bit conman and a moron, but I do think there's something ridiculous in yesterday's big "controversy" where he basically shrugged his shoulders at Saudi Arabia's killing of Jamal Khashoggi because of financial interests.

At any point in the last 30 years administrations, both Democrat and Republican and Liberal and Conservative here in Canada, have had all the opportunity in the world to not do business with a repugnant theocroacy who routinely tortures and murders their own citizens and Prime Minister and President alike have basically shrugged their shoulders. The Bush administration basically looked the other way at the very real evidence that 9/11 was Saudi-backed in order to keep the oil money flowing. Even now nobody in the West other than Germany has taken real steps to disassociate themselves from selling weapons to the Saudis so they can continue their war in Yemen, one that's causing mass starvation among the civilian population.

So we're supposed to be mad at Trump here because...he admitted to what other, more dignified, world leaders just look the other way at? Or because we're supposed to think that a few hundred thousand dead people in Yemen is one thing but killing one Journalist is where decent people should draw the line?

I don't generally wade into political threads cause I loathe all politics, but yeah you're 100% right.  Continuing to do business with Saudi Arabia despite all the human rights issues in that country is tantamount to helping them torture their own citizens.  Have to keep the oil flowing.
