Islanders @ Maple Leafs - Dec. 21st, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

There are a million worse thing s in this game but before the 3rd line got hemmed in for a minute the Leafs had the puck. Dewar went for a change and Reaves stayed in the ice to go for an offensive chance. The puck eventually went back the other way and the defensive setup for the 3rd line was a mess.

Why is Reaves taking minute long shifts when his line mates are getting off the ice

What Reaves needs to do to add value is get to the front of the NYI net and stay there. They might actually get something out of that.

He's looked off, awful is a huge stretch.
Kudos to him for giving it a go but he was better off staying out to try and get himself back to full health or close to it. Maybe he may never get back to 100 if it’s his back. His skating seems slow at times sluggish to me. They were winning without him so I would have left him out.

He doesn't even do that though. Watch him in the offensive zone and he's either handing around the half boards or high in the middle of the zone. You rarely see him anywhere near the net. It's baffling to me that Bérubé is satisfied with his play.

He gets a half dozen rub out hits which is cool but outside of a suspension hit, he has maybe 2 or three hits that are remotely memorable this year

Totally agree. He's spends 95% of his shifts in the OZ in areas that aren't productive — when you don't have any kind of a shot.

Lines scrambled with Marner and Nylander swapping

I suggested the original lines they started the game with to avoid messing up the two lines that were going, but this is a smart change to make. Marner had no one to really pass to, so moving him to Tavares provides the similar transition requirements Nylander was fulfilling. Nylander can play whatever line and Kampf just needs to give him the puck
