Jagr to Boston

Zee said:
To be honest, Boston hasn't looked that fantastic this season.  In years past they looked like a legit contender (especially when playing the Leafs) but this year it really seems like something is missing.  They've lost a couple times to the Habs and Pens among others.  I know their record is great, but I don't really see them as a true contender for some reason.  Maybe it's just me.

Well it's their offense that has been lacking so if Jagr jump starts that they could start looking pretty scary again.

What's interesting is that their defense has actually gotten better:

This year: 2.85 GF/G 2.21 GA/G
Last year: 3.28 GF/G 2.46 GA/G

I guess we could see it in games against the Leafs that even though they are as stifling as ever they didn't pump in the pile of goals that completely buried us in the matches last year.  This year we managed to hang around, keep it close and even nab some points.

If Lucic is out there making space for Jagr though, yikes.

I'm telling you, the prices are low for some reason.

It is weird, with so many supposed buyers.

I wonder if the prices start going up on deadline day?

I'm guessing there are probably less buyers than we think. I think that basically nobody wants to take on salary so the only teams out there actively looking are the teams that see value in dealing prospects and picks for rentals.

According to Gillis there's "4 teams" in on Luongo, expect a king's ransom for him.

He's being charitable. If his numbers are any indication 29 teams have no problem getting in on Luongo.

Jagr is so old he more than many others could break down at any moment.. That groin could pop again vrey easily... anyone could have had hi for 4 million this year. I don't see the big deal in getting him right now.. Sure it may help the PP for a bit but overall. meh

He's the classic rental. Makes sense for a team like Boston I guess, either it works big for them, or they fizzle out and nobody cares.  It's now his 6th NHL team, he's getting around.

His numbers right now have him on pace for the equivalent of a 34 goal season. 40 years old or no, that's nothing to sneeze at.

Both Lane MacDermid & Cody Payne aren't in Boston's top 10 prospects. Conditional 2nd rounder per reports. A steal for Jag

Pricks.

Pretty good deal for Boston. Not so good for Nieuwendyk

Apparently, the 2nd round pick is conditional and may get upgraded to a 1st depending on how deep Boston goes in the playoffs. If that's the case, then maybe it's not such a bad deal after all - if it's something like the conference finals that sets the condition.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Conditional 2nd rounder BOS will give DAL in Jagr deal becomes a 1st rounder if BOS wins two playoff series. BTW, deal still not official.
