Komarov in deep do-do with the law in Finland

Actually the "root" of why Greece collapsed was because idiot bankers the world over looked at the global economy like a game of craps. Bankers who, by and large, got bailed out by governments(of course, that wasn't socialism) who then took the brunt of the hit rather than let the actual effect of unfettered, free market capitalism hit their national economies. Socialist and Communist countries like Australia, China and Germany did much better through the crisis than ones with less restriction on banking like the United States and Russia.

Greece was in bad shape far before 2008....the events of 2008 just exacerbated things.

Sure. Sort of like a guy who gets beat up is in bad shape and the guy who comes along and puts two bullets in him is just "exacerbating things".

Imagine the hell here when and it will happen, we have to reign in the teachers, garbage collectors and zillion other contracts we can no longer afford. Retirement age in 10 years will be 70, in 15 years 75, so saddle up and like your job, cause U gonna need it.
What is transpiring in Greece now has its roots before WW2 and somehow someone got the notion of retirement at 50 with full benefits was a good sustainable ideal. Now now one wants to give up what should never have been given in the first place, like Clarksons contract.

Sort of like the Tar Sands will be great for our environment???in the long term

My brother-in-law never gets speeding tickets because he stays at home playing video games and collecting welfare.

This is perhaps the most random thing I've heard.
Speeding tickets is just another form of taxing people who work.

No, it's a fine for breaking the law.

My good friend works in the provincial courts. Believe me, they charge those who don't work just as often.

Interesting in what you say Bullfrog.  When out of work, I had no cable TV, didn't drive, etc.  Although I went without, sadly I saved more money then when working low-end jobs.  A speeding fine at some times of my life would of been crippling.  Now I just tell my wife to pay it, don't see any impact.  You have to work pretty hard to get a speeding ticket up in Thunder Bay.  There's no where to go besides from one stop light to the next.

Or, you know, people exceeding speed limits

While I'd 'hate' to be the wealthy guy getting charged $57,000 for speeding, it's all relative.

The message is simple...Don't speed........or don't get caught.

Is that not the message of all laws. If you know the penalty and still break the law...well you have nothing to really b*tch about.

i for one would love to see this implemented in hollywood just to see lindsay lohan's meltdown.

I calculate that driving with the faster traffic, I save 166 hours a year driving.

If fines were just a revenue stream, wouldn't it make more sense to adopt the model that Finland uses and pull over nice looking cars more often, rather than having a normalized rate across the board?

And, ultimately, isn't the real measure of the efficacy of any law how it affects you personally?

If Canada was really serious about speed limits and safety vs revenue why would there even be a production car available that goes over 120 kph as that is highest speed limit in Canada?

For the same reason that you're allowed to own guns but there are still laws against their unsafe use.

I like your "Nik knows everything schtick" but if you think the same requirements are on a semi auto gun as a speed limit on a car then we have no direction to head with this argument.  Try buying an AK-47 off the corner dealer and tell me it's the same process as buying a Ferrari.

Well, A) those cars aren't produced speed limits in mind. Their engines are made for racing. And, B) they're produced because there is a market for them, not necessarily a use for them. They're a status symbol. The overwhelming majority of the cars on the road can't go that fast safely. Also, you know, the cars you're talking about aren't produced in Canada, so, you know, where's the relevance?
