How are people thinking about Del Zotto? Not even necessarily for the Leafs but in general. He's 24 and has lots of talent. Defenders bloom a little late right? At 24 with that talent, he seems like a good risk.
Yeah, I would definitely take a chance on Del Zotto, especially if you could get him on a cheaper contract.

Del Zotto may make sense for someone out there. Maybe a team with a pretty solid top 4 but wouldn't mind some offense/puck movement on their bottom pairing.

I don't see the fit on the Leafs.

Tanner Glass had the worst impact on his team's possession last season: http://www.extraskater.com/players/dashboard?min_gp=50&dir=reverse&sort=cf_pct_rel ?

Woohoo

Nice, chemistry shouldn't be an issue then.

Okay, so, maybe reasonable was too strong a word.

Yeah I would take a flyer on him also. Worth a risk on a decent deal.

To me, Stastny makes the most sense. That or a defenseman. But there is no centre in the farm system that has a chance of becoming a no.1 center, except perhaps Kadri, but chances are slim on that happening. He can score, he's good on faceoffs, a good playmaker, and he'll cost only money.

However, I actually voted for Vanek. I think you have to at least talk to him. Our top four wingers are generally very good, but we need one more and I don't know how you can pass up the kind of talent he has.

Third choice would be Ehrhoff.
Really? Vanek? Wasn't he on Montreal 4th line in the playoffs? No thank you. And it's easy to pass up on him, don't inquire!

Yes, really. He's the most talented player on the FA market by far. It would free up the Leafs to trade Lupul. So they could potentially get a ppg scorer and an asset by trading Lupul.

He had a terrible playoffs, yes, but he's money in the regular season.

If we were trading Lupul and wanted to replace him via free agency I think I'd rather target Mike Cammalleri. He'll likely be cheaper and come with a shorter term, and last time he was a free agent in 2009 he was very close to signing with the Leafs.

Ya, that might be a good choice too, though he doesn't quite have the impact of Vanek. Vanek will probably come in around the $7M+ mark which might be a problem.

Wasn't the whole talk about Vanek at the deadline, and the reason for the bargain Montreal got on him, that him signing with Minnesota was essentially a decided matter?

He's been connected there for a very long time. Some people in the media said though that his playoffs may have changed Minny's mind.

I tell you something I'd do, I'd make a long term offer to Ryan Johansen at just about the upper limit of the RFA money that would result in compensation being a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Some team should absolutely be making him an offer sheet given the situation. Unfortunately the Leafs don't have their 2nd round pick next season so they won't be able to unless they re-acquire it. Although this could turn into a Kessel-like deal where a team uses an offer sheet as a threat and works out a trade from there.

The Leafs not having their 2nd round pick in the 2015 draft poses a pretty significant problem for them there.

Well, I didn't necessarily say that I'd be hypothetically running the Leafs there but even still.

I'd be interested in Mathieu Perreault since the Ducks apparently didn't qualify him.

Me too, I mentioned that earlier. You could tell he has a lot of talent as far back as his early Washington days. He was hard to play against also.
