Knee injury, apparently. Shocking.

A knee injury that caused a groin injury, to be precise. Not made up at all.

Basically, an old person injury (which makes me sad, because Robidas is only like 3 years older than me).

I thought it weird that he told the media he wasn't able to do most of the fitness stuff due to injuries he had or has had, I figured he might not be healthy at that point.

Although it all seems very convenient of course.

I always felt a little sorry for him when I read that article last year about him being recently divorced and being away from his kids. At least if he's on IR for a while he can go be with them I guess.

I don't know whether or not this is a cap issue but I wonder if the team essentially asked him if he'd rather be waived or put on IR for an injury that, while real, could have been played through.

Either way. I like the decision. Harrington won't move the needle much but I want to see more young guys on the team.

Just an FYI - the Leafs players who were announced as being on waivers yesterday were only officially placed on waivers today.

Also, 4 ex-Leafs are on waivers today - Devane, Erixon, Harrison and Raymond.

MASON Raymond? Isn't he only into the 2nd year of a 3 year $9 mil deal?

Ouch.

If Robidas goes on long term injury does his salary count against the cap?
If so why don't they offer him a coaching position within the organization for the same money if he retires? How does this work?

Agreed. I still don't understand the rationale from Nonis on giving him a 3-year deal.  What part of late 30s defenseman with two broken legs screamed more than a 1-year deal.

Insurance can pay for salary if you are in the IR.  After 28 days (?) on IR you qualify for LTIR status and your cap hit does not count against the cap.

It's how Philadelphia gets to cheat the system with Chris Pronger working for the NHL AND being in the hall of fame but somehow still being an "active" player.

The cap isn't really an issue for the Leafs right now, so there's no need for that kind of trickery.

Yeah. Someone mentioned that it was kind of a 'Lou' move but I really doubt that he's not injured to some degree and that they'll probably waive him when healthy. Heck, the Leafs could lose a couple dmen to injury and Robidas might get healthy and end up playing.
