I wonder why Brown doesn?t just hammer a slap shot when he?s in on the shorthand. Good chance one of their D or F4 takes a stinger blocking it, or they spend time finding the bounce out.

I think it's the fear of mixing the net and then getting caught. Take it to the safe area and try to kill the clock.

When Kappy hit the blueline and didn't really have any separation I though "damn, that coulda been a nice break". Then that happened.

Probably. Usually the PP players aren?t your good blockers, so if you don?t have a clear lane, skating it deep kills good time, but you?re not likely to hold it or do anything dangerous with it and you?re still caught. So why not rip it and maybe something weird happens?
