Leafs @ Canucks - Dec. 3rd, 7:00 pm - CBC, TSN 1050

That wooooo thing the crowd does at the announcer's prompt after a goal is pretty awful.

All because Zach Hyman has no hands and can't make a pass.

I think he might've been expecting Brown there instead of Rielly. Would've been a dandy to a rightie.

And, sure he's our best trading chip, but is he really pricing himself out?  We all thought that would happen to several guys on TB.  So who knows?

If he puts up 30+ goals this season, and comes close or does the same next? Yeah, I'd say so. That's likely $7M+ per for 5+ seasons territory for a guy who isn't going to be your best forward (possibly even not your 2nd or 3rd best, either). Unless they get Nylander, Matthews, and Marner on long-term sweetheart deals, that's not really manageable.

I live here just outside Vancouver and that's just another thing about Canuck fans that make me puke. What annoys me even further is that the Leafs can't beat them in Vancouver. Then I get all sorts of texts....

Like I say, it only works if he deals a discount to us because he wants to "be part of something special."

Having said that, if the right trade came along for a defenseman, then of course you have to look hard at it.

Coming off a deal that paid him well below his market value, that seems unlikely.

I don't remember the Nation being out in that kind of volume in Vancouver in recent years.

So did Y's signings.

Only to people who built up the "Stamkos not getting along with Cooper" narrative. There was never really any talk about him or Hedman looking for deals that made up for being underpaid in the past, like JvR is likely to do in the summer of 2018.

Even then though. With Marner, Matthews, Kadri and Nylander figuring to be around for a while at some point it becomes less about what JVR is willing to take and more about how much money you want to put into forwards.

I've gone the last 4 years and they always represent but this year yes, they are louder. I would be thrilled if they can beat them by 2-3. Overjoyed even at a win. Pretty awful the years I went...

Still, both Stamkos and Hedman signed for less than anyone predicted.  All I'm saying is that it's possible here too.  Though Nik makes a salient point.  But even so, Nik, if JVR is part of a galaxy of 4 highly paid forwards does that really throw off the whole payroll balance?

And I'm getting extremely annoyed at Babcock's handling of Nylander.

Why's that? You don't like him on Kadri's wing?

No, although I'd prefer him back with 34 but just Babcock's mind games with him. It seems once in Babcock's doghouse it's very difficult to get out and I just see inklings of them creating "issues" with Nylander and then trading him.

It means, if the team wants to have any real success, they'll need a lot of players in the lineup that are out-performing their paycheque. An excessive amount, really.

Dear NHL PA announcers: the only team allowed to do the Ric Flair "Woo!" is the Canes. Nobody else. Looking at you Canucks guy.

On that note, do we all agree that announcers going "Woo!" and adding taunts is stupid in general? Just announce the freaking goal.

That's an interesting take.

I've been hearing Babcock go out of his way to explain to the media that Nylander on the 4th line is not a message to him; more like spreading out the offense on the road when Babcock can't always get the matchups. I think it shows that Babcock has a lot of trust in Nylander actually: he's using him in a defensive role (either 4th line grind, or Kadri's checking line), as the mirror QB to Matthews' PP line, and also as an offensive NOx boost when pushing for a goal.
