Leafs Get Andersen from Ducks

It seems like the right price for a goalie like Andersen, but I'm still not sure I'd have paid it. He's about to turn 27 years old and his last 2 seasons have pretty much been right at league average. I dunno.

Yeah and he isn't anything special in terms of HDSV% either by the looks of it.

Still he's 6'4" and they probably think they can get him signed cheaper than Reimer.

Yeah, I'm thinking that is key as well.

I'd be very surprised if he signs for cheaper than Reimer does.

And of course we wouldn't have had to give up picks for Reimer.

He's only a year younger than Bernier?  I had it in my head that he was a little younger than that.  And also that he was Swedish and not Danish.  I knew, however, that he was a goalie.

Well, apparently Reimer's initial ask from the Leafs was obscene, no?

This obviously means they think Andersen has a higher upside.

That's his HDSV%, what about his 4KSV% with resolution 10 times that of regular HDSV%?

But there's this, which I have no idea what any of it means but let's assume it is good:

@Cane_Matt

Andersen is 6th in Adj.FSv% amongst goalies with 5000+ 5v5 mins since 2010. Definitely a guy worth taking a shot on. (via @CorsicaHockey)

Andersen was probably the best available goalie on the market this summer, so, there's that. The price is a little higher than I would have expected, but not to the point where it's a concern. The contract will be interesting. Can't imagine it'll be less than $4.5M per, probably closer to $5M - effectively taking the Leafs out of the hunt for any significant UFAs until other contracts are moved.

Not quite sure I understand this move...

From a tank perspective or not good enough or wanting to wait until closer to the expansion draft or ......?

From a team building perspective...goaltending was a few years away from being important on MY teambuilding template.  That's why I thought they'd draft a couple of them this year, and if neither worked out, they'd have to trade for one in 2019.

That they've traded for a mature goalie right now doesn't make much sense to me.

I fear for the anti-Stamkos crowd though...

mirtle: Lamoriello on Andersen: "Acquiring him was the most important thing. The price was secondary."

mirtle: Lamoriello: "You need two goaltenders to play."

Doesn't sound like they're in a rush to move Bernier, either.

Without other contracts going out, Andersen's contract will probably be big enough to kill the team's chances of being in the market for any high profile UFAs.

If push comes to shove, they can go over cap by as much as 10% in the offseason, with Horton's contract on the books.

True, but wouldn't you think this move makes even less sense if they do nothing?

Like, are they planning on shelling they guy like they did Bernier and Reimer?
