Leafs Get Andersen from Ducks

Well he didn't miss ALL training camp...

Lamoriello: I think, first of all, if anyone has seen Freddie play over the past few years and knew what he did in Anaheim? They did everything they could to keep him there, but it was impossible for different reasons. I knew exactly what their thought process was because we had spoken throughout the year. But he did miss training camp. He wasn?t just hurt. He was injured. He came back as quickly as he could. Whether he came back too soon, I couldn?t answer that. I?ll leave that up to our people and him. And then we put him right into a game, which he wanted to get in. Right now, he?s not on top of his game. We have no questions of what his abilities are and what he will be. He will be our number-one goaltender unless something we don?t see [happening happens]. We have no doubts on Freddie. He has not played the way he would like to play, but we have to have patience there because I think the worst person that could miss training camp is a goalie.

Please don't copy and paste things like that without citing where it came from: https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2016/10/13/lou-lamoriello-we-have-no-doubts-on-frederik-andersen/

Those guys do a lot of work transcribing interviews. Credit is due.

He needs to be eased in a bit more I think. I'd give Enroth a chance for tomorrow nights game, and Wednesday's game, then go back to Freddy for next Thursday. Then you make the decision for next Saturday nights game.

Understood.  Yes they do, although I do imagine a little voice to text software makes things a little easier now.  :)

Really?  I'd go right back with Andersen if he feels able.  He'll be well rested like the rest of the squad.  It's early and Shannyco needs to start determining if they got what they paid for or not. You don't not play a starter that has 2 days off if he's your starter.  It can't even be determined if he's starting the season on a 'cold streak' out not.

Let him try to bounce back.  His M.O. says he recovers from bad losses well and is unfazed by them.

Yeah, that's what he needs to get into game shape.... Sit more for the back-up...
He needs to play a whole bunch in a row, like 15 or 20 and establish himself. (maybe give him an off night on the second day of back-to back, I haven't looked that far into the schedule, though).

I'm willing to say he was adequate.

Liked his puck handling. It's been awhile since the Leafs had a goalie who didn't treat the puck like it was a live grenade.

Andersen looked steady and really handles the puck well, he really made some nice long feed passes.  I can see him getting more than a few assists if he keeps that up.

In case y'all weren't sour enough about the Andersen trade lately...

Sam Steel, whom the Ducks drafted 30th overall, is currently posting some gaudy WHL numbers. 19 pts (8G/11A) in 8 games.

Samuel Girard has 14 points in 5 games in the Q. More than double the scoring rate of the next highest scoring defenceman.

Also probably unsustainable but whatever.
