This is trolling.

Why?  I thought they had a great 3rd

Are we now celebrating playing 1 good period out of 3?  People talk about this team playing a full 60 mins, but they rarely play a hard 30 mins.  No team in the NHL tries as little as they do.  Tonight included.  The effort was compartmentalized, as it always is.  They just don?t care.  That?s the hardest part for fans.

So yeah, it?s trolling when someone says they enjoyed tonight?s ?effort.?  It wasn?t good enough.

That?s not how I troll

Genuinely a good process game after whatever happened in Pittsburgh. It?s on the right track even if the result came out the other way. A bounce in the other direction and we?re having a different conversation.

Moral victories don?t mean much when you?re clawing for wins though, so they need to get fired up and regain that confidence that they can put teams away. Tavares is still recovering his feel and timing. Kerfoot coming back will help, as will Marner.

No. A bounce the other way and we are still having the same convo. They are supposed to be contenders and they haven't dominated anybody all season. Their defense is fatally flawed and needs to be fixed.  Babcock and Dubas each have a big slice of blame.

It's one thing to maintain a positive outlook. But there is such a thing as being Pollyanna-ish and that's what that comment came off like.

And it's time to scratch Barrie until they can unload him. He cost them any chance to squeak out a win.

Come on, herman.  Really.

You just may have to deal with the fact that some people don't turn into obnoxious idiots because their hockey team loses.

Don't agree with that at all. This isn't about 1 guy even if he's struggling.

Leafs haven?t even had a lead in over 400 plus minutes of hockey.  That?s nearly impossible to accomplish.

How sanctimonious of you.

No, it's just maintaining some semblance of perspective. Give it a shot one day.

Grow up.  This is a game thread.  We all lives that we offer perspective to that have nothing to do with sport.  People come to game threads to vent about sports because it?s an outlet in their life, then they go about their life..  You come here to tell others you?re better than them because you don?t get upset.  At least Herman is more subtle about it.

No, that's you. Not all people come here to vent. Some people come to gameday threads to discuss things amicably, with humour, even when things aren't going the Leafs' way.

And if you want to rant and wail every thread all the time, I mean, do you. But I think it crosses a line when someone else can't even offer a different perspective of the game without being accused of trolling.

Do you visit any other message boards?  Pick any of the four major North America sports and go to a game thread of that team.  See what you find. It?s cathartic for people to not be amicable when frustratiion mounts.

And as I?ve stated in the past, the over optimistic  take is much more digestible than the realistic take.  Just so happens that after 6 straight loses people don?t want to hear that playing 1 good period is an enjoyable effort.  They haven?t led for over 400 minutes of hockey, whats humorous about that?

Yes. And, indeed, they all are also plagued by people who suffer from the same deficiencies of perspective and humour. But, at least the ones I go to, they also feature people who like to laugh and crack wise, even when things aren't going well and as a general rule those are the people whose posts I read and engage with.

I mean, quite a bit if you think about it.

There?s a reason I prefer coming here than say Facebook or Reddit, and it ain?t the ventilation.

Most here have also been around longer, and seen more iterations of this team. Not sure about anyone else but I?ve seen baaaad, and this is a good team in the midst of bad results, which is a difference.
