Leafs Injury Updates

Dang.  The sarcasm meter.  I know quite a few Leaf fans who like Dupuis, but I am not sure why.  I thought you were one of those.  FWIW, Crosby has more points than Dupuis and Dupuis has played a lot more games than Crosby.  If Crosby's season has ended, he will end up with more points than Dupuis.

And, if he keeps up the same pace if/when he comes back, it will only take 8 more games for Crosby to reach the same amount of total ice time as Dupuis has had so far this season, including almost 100 times more ice time on the PP.

Please don't defend Dupuis.  Just please don't.  You sound silly.  :P  ;D

Using Crosby's offensive production as a knock against Dupuis is much more silly.

Honestly, I don't understand the hate people have for Dupuis. No, he hasn't contributed offensively, but, and I can't stress this enough, he's a 4th line player. If the Leafs are really counting on him to chip in offensively, then they're in much worse shape than we all want to believe.

True.  But Crosby did outscore Dupuis after his first shift ;)

Either way-  Wilm, Wallin, Sjostrom, Dupuis, we always need 1 of them.

markhmasters: Leafs centre Philippe Dupuis placed on IR w/ an upper-body injury

I fully expect an immediate improvement in our PK. Or else...

I am glad you do because I don't.  Until the players become more agressive on the PK, and learn how to efficiently get the puck out of their zone, there will be no improvement.

There was a fair bit of sarcasm in that post directed at those who feel Dupuis is a large problem to our PK unit and that a call-up such as Boyce or Zigomanis would be more effective. I guess we'll see.

I was never comparing Zigomanis to Dupuis or suggesting anything would change with the PK. I just assumed that since Dupuis was injured, the Leafs would call up a 4th line player who could kill penalties, i.e. Zigo.  Given that Steckel has been battling a broken finger and was doing poorly at faceoffs because of it, seemed like a natural thing to give Zigomanis a shot.

Fair enough. That wasn't necessarily directed to any individual poster, but it does seem to be a prevailing thought among those who don't think Dupuis is an effective player.

With that said, I've also suggested calling up Zigomanis to allow Steckel's finger to properly heal quicker.

I'd be much more concerned about Dupuis' lack of scoring if he was more of a liability on the ice. But at even-strength, per minute he's been scored against the 3rd least amount of times in the entire league (among players who have played at least 20 games). Even when you consider that the Leafs 4th line doesn't typically go out against the other teams top lines, that's a pretty impressive stat.

Yup. I mean, obviously, an upgrade will be required in the future, but, all in all, Dupuis hasn't been a negative to the team. He's been mostly a non-factor, which, while not great, hardly deserves the level of disdain he receives.

I just read some blogger post that suggested Boyce could easily replace Dupuis on the pk, sure, he only has to come up with 2 mins toi/g more than what he's ever played in that role, sounds legit.

But, dude, don't you know, the 16:31 in career PK time Boyce has was EPIC!

:)

It was Mike, as 'in Buffalo', I should have known better...

In my defense it was from a link sent to me, still, if I don't want the scabies I have to stop playing with the dirty, dirty bloggers.  :P

It's like Raycroft's 37 wins, but in reverse.

But ZERO points, man.

Because, you know, if there's one thing this team has struggled at, it's scoring.

I just read the Hornby article, it almost feels like a practical joke they all fell for.

I think it's funny that considering what the title of the article is, he doesn't even kind of mention how Boyce will help the PK.

edit: And then there's the whole fact that Wilson played him for a grand total of 16 seconds between his first two games.

Komisarek back today too and Dupuis will be back within the week after suffering a broken thumb.  Dupuis expected to sit for a while though provided current form continues.

It's going to be interesting to see the line-up once Lombardi, Dupuis, and Komisarek come back. Kadri and Frattin both seem to be making it quite difficult for Burke to send them down again. We could be in for a 4th line of Lombardi-Steckel-Dupuis.
