well Franson can't do any damage from the penalty box??

and yes, LK, Barb Underhill is still working with at least some of the Leafs?.there was a piece on her doing Kessel (oops, perhaps I should reword that) on LeafsTV not long ago.

Yeah, but while I think there are things to be said for technique and how it can be used to maximize a player's abilities, I really question how much anyone can be taught speed.

Has he been benched even once this season?

I don't think he's been a healthy scratch.

He's their only right handed shot on the blue line, which, apparently trumps the fact that he's terrible defensively.

It can work wonders. I mean, look at Tavares. He wasn't exactly the swiftest of skaters when he first broke into the league, but, after working with a power skating coach, he found an extra gear.

Like I said, I have my doubts that improvement in that regard can be specifically tied to coaching but I don't doubt that lots of guys make the NHL with imperfect skating technique.

Remember that game and a half where Gardiner played on the top powerplay unit? Good times.

I love how this coaching staff makes some of their decisions. "Hey, they worked well. We shouldn't do that anymore."

Well, the improvement in technique can by tied to coaching, and that can be tied to an increase is speed  :P . . . also, some coaching on what muscle groups to pay more attention to in the gym and such can help, as well.

I think technique can be taught to enhance speed, but quickness is much more difficult. Slow twich vs. fast twitch muscle fibers and the like. You're born with a certain ratio, and one has to work within those limitations.

That's why I tell my wife its so difficult to get off the couch quickly.

I love the two-man cycle from McClement and Ashton on the 4th line.  And Colton Orr can't handle a pass from Franson that puts them in the defensive zone on an icing.

Good example of how in limited minutes can still have a negative impact.
