Remember that game and a half where Gardiner played on the top powerplay unit? Good times.

I love how this coaching staff makes some of their decisions. "Hey, they worked well. We shouldn't do that anymore."
A Randy trademark.

Well, the improvement in technique can by tied to coaching, and that can be tied to an increase is speed  :P . . . also, some coaching on what muscle groups to pay more attention to in the gym and such can help, as well.

That's sort of what I'm getting at. For a guy like Tavares who's recently come into a league I'm sure there are a whole host of things, from fitness to skating technique and your various strength trainings, that contributed to his improvement.

I love the two-man cycle from McClement and Ashton on the 4th line.  And Colton Orr can't handle a pass from Franson that puts them in the defensive zone on an icing.

Seriously. Replace Orr with Bodie or D'Amigo, and the team suddenly has a useful 4th line. Not that Carlyle would use it much, but, at least it would be there.

Rielly-Gardiner are both natural PP qb's.

Neither of which has a rocket of a shot...both have nice wristers though.  I honestly don't understand why Carlyle insists on Franson-Phaneuf rather than splitting up his heavy shots.

He's going with a group that produced at a high level all of last season on the PP. I don't think you can attribute these shortcomings to the composition of players being used.

Yeah that's what I mean, both are great at passing/setting things up.  Have excellent vision.

Except, he's using them differently than last season. Last season, they'd switch sides so they both had the one-timer available to them. This year, they're not, so neither has it.

That sort of speaks to what I said, no?
