Listen. I hope you're right. I see them getting on a role after the deadline, maybe sooner. Trading some of their friends away will have way more  of an impact then their coach getting canned. Who would you rather see let go at your job, your boss or half the guys you work beside everyday?

Let's be honest here, though. Most of the guys that will be moved out are guys that they've only worked beside for a few months. We're not talking about guys they've developed long lasting bonds with.

True. I was thinking more about a guy like Franson though. Players like Phaneuf and Kessel would probably get moved in the off season, if at all.

How does Holzer get walked around there.  That was unbelievably bad.

And Bernier quits.

Sure, but, his teammates will have had had like a month to mentally prepare for Franson leaving. There aren't likely to be any moves that cause a shock in the room at the deadline.

Maybe Reimer gets a few games in a row and a team with questionable goaltending pays too much for him.

Bernier certainly didn't look hurt going off, at least nothing that would indicate a lower-body injury. Odd.

With his history of injuries, it wouldn't surprise me if he just felt something was not right and didn't want to make it worse. He might not be out long-term, but, it still kind of highlights the need for the Leafs to A) play their backup enough to keep him fresh and B) have a backup that's capable of taking the ball and running with it for an extended period. It also makes committing big money and big term to Bernier problematic.

Which is more tank? Bernier out, or Bernier in?

I like the way our tradebait has been playing.

At the very least, his play this season + injury troubles should mean he doesn't get the massive contract I was worried he might get. Then again, I shouldn't be too happy that our goaltending isn't as good as we thought it might be.

A lot of people on twitter speculating that Bernier may have cut himself with his own skate. I think that would make sense. He could have looked down and saw blood and realized he had to get out of there.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Word from Leafs is goalie Jonathan Bernier was cut but is likely to return for the 3rd period.

Or not . . .

jonasTSN1050: Reimer first goalie on the ice for the third period. Appears he'll finish the game.
