People can criticize Andersen all they want but anyone pretending the team's defense hasn't been absolutely atrocious is kidding themselves.

Yup. You give up a high volume of chances of any reasonable quality to a team like Tampa, and you're going to pay for it. Can't give guys like Stamkos clean looks, or put a nice screen on your own goalie and then play soft on the the guy in front. Andersen should've been better on the 2nd goal, but, if the D was at least reasonable, that goal doesn't happen.

That clip Kypreos just showed of the second goal doesn't absolve Andersen but, still, that puck could have sailed in and it would have been tough to blame Andersen.

Looking at the replay of the second goal, I don't see how Polak gets any blame for it, despite Kypreos's comment.

Having seen the image from Kypreos's solid point (wow, there's a first), even the 2nd goal was a clear screen, and bad defence work.

You mean, other than the screen as the shot is being released, and then playing soft on Killorn? Yup. No blame.

Are you operating under the assumption that Polak is see-through?

How is Polak soft there?  He tied Killorn up until after such time as Andersen should have had it.

Killorn is between him and the goalie.

I've heard it is usually effective to play defense in a manner that helps your goalie see the puck.

Are you operating under the assumption that he should have just let Killorn go?  That one's not on Polak, goalies are screened all the time and make saves.

Sidenote:  Thanks Stammer for wasting no time showing us, Leafs fans, your hometown, what we could have enjoyed for 7 years!

I've heard that the crowd mentality often gets the better of folks.

If you're going to screen the goalie, you might as well get behind the guy standing in front of the net.

Exactly. I'm not blaming just the D it's the forwards that need to do a better job. I was really impressed with how we played last year for the most part. Puck possession was better, puck pursuit was better just overall better defense from the whole team. I know we have a bunch of new faces but Babcock needs to realize that if any of these guys aren't competing without the puck then they need to ride the pine doesn't matter who it is.

And if you didn't, you tie him up, which Polak did until Andersen muffed it.
