Jake Gardiner more or less confirmed on Thursday what Ron Wilson has been loathe to acknowledge.

Gardiner, who surprised nearly everyone when he landed a job on the Maple Leafs blue line out of training camp, is quite sure he will be a healthy scratch when Cody Franson makes his Leafs debut on Saturday night against the Calgary Flames.

?They told me they were going to take me slow and ease me into playing time and stuff like that, so I kind of expected this,? Gardiner, 21, said. ?It?s not the end of the world. I?m just going to play my best in practice and keep going.

?We have a lot of games coming up, and I?m looking forward to that. I?m sure I will play in a couple of those games at least.?

Franson in for Gardiner

It sounds like he's just guessing, but it would make more sense. Now Franson has to make his Leafs-debut on the left-side though, where he's admittedly not exactly comfortable, and in a system that he hasn't had much time to adjust to.

I hope that they play Franson on the RH side.  When Phaneuf smoked the Sens player Phaneuf came from the LH side and can easily play there.  Gunnarsson and Liles are LH side players.  Schenn and Franson showed in the past that they struggle on the LH side and need to play on the RH side....

....and I don't know which side Komisarek can play.... ;D

I just know that most of Komi's career he has been on the RH side.  If Phaneuf as a LH shot plays on the LH side with Liles and Gunnarsson then Schenn, Komisarek and Franson can play the RH side.

From what I can tell, Phaneuf has played the vast majority of his career on the right side. You don't change that now because of where he threw a hit, especially when he's finally starting to put things back together.

I have no particular personal opinion about Connolly but neither did I think he was going to be a solution to our center problems.

I still think they ought to try Kadri at center -- IF they keep him up.

And Komisuckric somehow avoids the axe because of the Leafs man crush on him.

Is Kadri ready to play?  I haven't seen an update except that he was "close" earlier in the week.

I heard/read somewhere that he's still unlikely for Saturday but should come back soon afterward.

Wilson said "the little b#@strd is healing faster than expected" or something like that LOL

Dear Cody Franson,

Please go have a sit down with James Reimer and see what it means to be a team player;

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/10/13/brophy_leafs_gustavsson/

"It's a tough situation and it can be awkward, but at the same time if you have two good guys its fine," Reimer said. "Obviously everybody wants to get as much ice time as possible and it's the guy sitting beside you that you're fighting with. At the same time if you have a bad attitude or you're a jerk about it, that's when things often go bad for you and it's not just bad for the two of you, it's bad for everyone.

"As for me and Gusty, we've got a good friendship going. We've gotten to know each other well, especially the past few days in Trenton. I think we're respectful of each other and at the end of the day we want the best for each other. That's what is best for the team. You can't be selfish about it. You have to respect the other guy and you have to want him to do well."

James Reimer has to be one of the most decent human beings on the planet.

Komisarek played fairly well in the first two games, I think. Gardiner, not so much.

Agree on both.  Komi will probably never be able to do anything to win back fan support but he was good vs. Mtl and okay vs. Ottawa (no player on the Leafs was good in that 3rd period), but Gardiner I think will be headed to the Marlies pretty soon.  They have to integrate Franson soon and Komi isn't going to sit in the press box no matter how badly some want it to happen.

Those are great quotes from Reimer.  But Gus's are equally team-oriented.  Having Jiggy around them both last year was a good thing, I reckon.

Who would be? Like others have said, it's good that he was upset about not playing, but don't air the laundry to the Toronto media of all places. He'll learn that quick enough.

... and that's just it. He's extremely young and playing in hockey's largest media market. I'd wager this one (and it's not at all a big deal IMO) is just going to be part of his education as a pro.

I've learned, moreso this year than ever, to put very little stock in journalists' interpretation of player and coach statements and just watch the interviews myself.  Franson's displeasure with being cut was overblown, and so likely is Wilson's reaction to it.  The fact that there are no specific quotes and the strongest verb they thought they could get away with was 'not impressed' is telling.  The one quote they have from Wilson is right on, Franson certainly has put pressure on himself to perform right out of the gate.

What's funny are the comments calling for Wilson's blood when it's hard to see what he's done wrong here.  He started the season with the guys that had the strongest camp, if he had done otherwise he would have opened himself up to even more criticism.  Now they expect him to be super happy that Franson whined a bit to the media or what?  He's giving the guy his chance now it was only 2 games in the press box FFS.
