Well then you must be going on the assumption that last year was just an anomaly or that Schneider is one of the best goalies to ever play the game for Luongo to be outplayed by Schneider that badly but still be a great goalie.Corn Flake said:I think the idea that the Canucks will buy him out is about as likely as Burke ever signing a player to an 8 year deal.
Based on 2/3 of remaining salary, Vancouver would have to pay him approx $27 million to go away. There is simply no way on earth they do that. Its not as though the guy is washed up either - far from it.

Not saying last year wasn't just an anomaly for Luongo, it's possible.
Well, posting a 919 save% is probably a little easier playing for Vancouver than it would've been for Toronto last year. Although I could be wrong, I was surprised to see van was near the bottom of the league in shots allowed, almost the same number as Toronto, although that doesn't mean they were allowing as many quality scoring chances, which I doubt they were. I have a hard time believing Schneider could put up those numbers if he was playing on a team as bad defensively as the shots allowed stat suggests at face value.bustaheims said:Not that I'm advocating the Leafs adding Luongo, but, if they received goaltending with the same save percentage that Luongo provided last season, they would have allowed approximately 46 less goals.
I never said Luongo wasn't good, I said for Luongo to have been GREAT last year...Nik V. No, you just have to be of the belief that Schneider was terrific last year and Luongo was good. As Busta alludes the numbers sort of bear that out. Among goalies who played in more than half of their teams games last year, Luongo's SV% ranked 10th.
There is no level to which Schneider could have played that would make a .919 SV% lousy.

Maybe it was my mistake misinterpreting what CF meant by saying far from being washed up, for some reason I automatically assumed he meant that he's still a great goalie, when obviously he could've mean that he's still atleast a good goalie.Nik V. Debs said:ontariojames said:I never said Luongo wasn't good, I said for Luongo to have been GREAT last year...
But nobody said he was great. CF just said he wasn't washed up which bears out. Last year wasn't the worst statistical year of Luongo's career and there is no consistent pattern that indicates a decline.
I'm not a big advocate of trading for Luongo either but I think it's fair to say that if you look at his career, his down years are years that are still pretty good statistically which may not be worth his contract/what it would cost to trade for him but it's still a pretty significant step up from the goaltending Leafs fans have seen over the last 8 years.
A lot of Nucks fans think they got that far in spite of Luongo, not because of him, and a lot of Nucks fans think he's the reason they didn't win the cup. The only reason the Nashville series was as close as it was was because of how many bad goals from behind the net and from the goal line Luongo let in at bad times. He was also very mediocre in three of the finals games. Regardless, even if he actually was great in last years playoffs, that doesn't change the fact that he has had a history of mediocre playoffs. Does the fact that Brodeur made it to game 6 of the finals last year change the fact that ever since the last lockout he has been mediocre in every single playoffs except maybe two?Bonsixx said:ontariojames said:I don't want to give up something significant for a goalie who's just good and is already 33 and looks like he might be regressing already and has a history of mediocre playoffs.
Yep, Lord knows I want no part of a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup final...
