I believe that a player like Domi would be a good addition to the Leafs and worth chasing! The right coach could to a lot with the player I saw at the world juniors!

Huh, you know, I never really thought about it in that sense but I wonder if that's what is driving some of the Crouse speculation.

I really have been thinking about that...it was one of the reasons that Crouse was interesting to me.
Strome isn't a small guy though, and I'd have trouble picking Crouse over Strome.
But if Strome and Hannafin are off the table (say Leafs are picking 5th), then adding Marner would be adding another diminutive top-6 guy...I wonder if they'd rather one of the bigger centers?

If you are at five, and Marner is left, would you rather take Marner, take Crouse, or would you trade down like the Islanders did the year they took Bailey?
L K said:I think I do understand that reasoning and if the Leafs genuinely think that Crouse is going to be that guy who clearly locks in as the 3rd player on the top line of Nylander + Kadri/Brown, then it does have some validity.
I think my stance remains that the Leafs are likely 2-3 drafts away from being around the playoffs and because of that they should be drafting on talent and not need. If they feel Crouse is close to equivalent to Marner (obviously based on different skill sets) then fine. It's not an argument I agree on but such as it is.

I think I still take Marner.
CarltonTheBear said:I can't see them skipping Marner for these reasons. First, he's a heck of a lot better than Leipsic and Brown. Second, while it's great to see what those guys are doing at the AHL level at their ages, they're still not locks to be impact top line players, or even impact top-6 players. The Leafs are at a stage where they desperately need high-level prospects. If they already had another Nylander in the system then maybe I could see them taking Crouse, but not at this point.
Nik the Trik said:Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest the Leafs would be smart to pass on Marner. Just that I could understand why that organizational perception might lead them to make Crouse the prospect they wanted to have the best handle on and, as a result, that fuels speculation that they're more interested in him than they are.

Has there actually been speculation that they want Crouse? I just haven't heard anything like that before.

I can't speak to media speculation but there's certainly been some here and wasn't there the thing about Nonis taking in one of his games?

Nonis: "Hey Brendan, you know that I still work here, right?"
Shanahan: "Oh right, Dave. Yeah, of course, we have a VERY important scouting assignment that I want to send you on."
Hunter/Dubas: *snickers*

Nonis: Guys, I just got back from the trip. There was this magical prospect I think we need to make our #1 priority. He exhibits truculence and everything.
