Marlies Talk 15/16 - Is Sheldon worth Keefe'n around?

Nylander's got a comfortable 4-point lead in the scoring race. I'm more excited about Nylander than Marner; though it's obviously pretty amazing having both.

Actually it's 5pts ;)

Nylander was sent back to Toronto to recovery from his not-concussion.

Impact and initial presentation have nothing to do with symptom duration, severity or pace of recovery.

Is flying okay if  you have a concussion?

This is a real concern, lets hope its not that bad. All he needs is one or two more good head shots and his career could be cooked early.
The player that head hunted him should be expelled from the game, complete filth on that hit.

Just a bit on Mitch Marner. To be honest I dont watch OHL and Marner didnt show me much in camp.  However in the third period of the Finland game yesterday, I finally saw the potential that this kid has.  His two goals and then splitting three Finish players to almost have a third period hattrick was electrifyly sick.
All of a sudden I am getting very excited about what this guy will bring one day.
Wouldn't mind drafting one of the two Finish players;  Jesse Puljujarvi or Laine, both reminded us of a young Malkin.

There isn't anything to suggest that it is harmful.  The pressure changes might exacerbate a headache, but it's really not any worse than trying to progress through recovery and hitting a setback say when you try reading or watching TV.  Its just advised to prepare for the flight.  Stay rested, hydrated and don't really exert yourself on the flight.

What it does validate is that if Nylander is still symptomatic, Lou was completely in the right to refuse to allow him to speak to the media at a press conference.  That's a pretty terrible media strategy and Sweden should be embarrassed for attempting to put him in that situation.  Over stimulation is not good.  Forcing him in a room with a bunch of lights, cameras and people potentially yelling questions all around him is dumb.

It's really not any more of a concern than if he had recovered within 48 hours.  Duration of concussion symptoms don't really predict the risk of future concussion.  It's really just a reminder that head injuries can be unpredictable.  Minor impact can result in prolonged symptoms and major impacts can be quick recoveries.

The most important thing is to not rush a recovery.  Physio has a great role for working through some of the vestibular dysfunction of a concussion but ultimately it doesn't really impact recovery time, it's just about improving functional quality during the recovery process.  It's all about time.  The only essential thing is to not rush someone back early and risk a second impact syndrome.

Thanks, it was one of those things I must have heard somewhere but clearly not based on anything concrete.

Due to the Marlies missing so many players, T.J. Brennan is starting at C today.  Tomas Kaberle was unavailable.

When is Brown expected to be back?

He's just now back on the ice doing skating drills.  I imagine it will still be a little while.

I hope he can come back and finish the season strong. He almost felt like an afterthought playing for Erie with McDavid getting so much attention, but he led Erie in scoring both years prior to that (sub-par teams). Then he led scoring and put up nearly a point per game in the Marlies.  I don't expect him to be a game breaker, but I think a 2nd line winger would be a victory, especially given he was a 6th round pick.

Just a reminder that Sheldon Keefe has done a really nice job with the Marlies so far.

Started the season 27-7-2 for a .778 PT% and 1st place in the AHL.

Damn, I don't follow the AHL at all, but that's an impressive record.  Hope it translates into future Leafs players.
