Marlies Talk 15/16 - Is Sheldon worth Keefe'n around?

You know, sometimes I think that I've been pretty worn down by the years of Leafs being terrible but then I see people who flip out about mild criticisms about a AHL team they've had to talk themselves into and I realize I've actually dealt with all of the disappointment comparatively well.

Some might say your handling of the whole ordeal has been so-so.

Look like Loov is still practicing the ol open ice hit:  For Scherbak, who took a huge open-ice hit from Viktor Loov, it was his first game back after missing six with a foot injury. He came back briefly in the second, but then headed to the dressing room for good ?

Nylander with the overtime goal and 3 assists in last nights wild 9-8 win over the Bulldogs. Bibeau gave up 8 goals in 2 periods. Pretty clear he doesn't give a damn about tracking.

That puts Nylander 2nd in AHL scoring, 1 point behind the leader and he has 2 games in hand. 19 points in 14 games. That would put him on pace to score 100 if he plays a full season (which he won't because of the WJC).

Just ok.

Leivo is having a good year too.  I'm not sure that keeping him in the AHL much longer makes a lot of sense.  Unless the Leafs don't view him as a prospect I would rather see him in the NHL than Froese.  14 points in 13 games.

I had written him off at the beginning of the season. The fact that the Leafs cut him as early as they did in training camp makes me think that they likely did too. But yeah, the way he's started at least gives me a slight glimmer of hope for him. I don't think that he'll ever be an impact player in the NHL in any way, but yeah I think you're right they need to at least see what he can do in the NHL sometime this season.

See, now, 6 goals and 12 assists. That's an exceptional night for prospects.

Not just the overall product, but the way/when they were scored.  3 of Nylander's 4 points came in the 5 goals to tie/win the game.  They count just as much as points scored early in the game, but that Nylander led the charge with a goal and two primary assists is really nice to see.

I think playing with Nylander has certainly helped him.

That's certainly a factor. For Panik too. Looking at Leivo's game-by-game stats, his points have been all over the place. For instance, 7 points in his first 8 games sounds pretty good, but 6 of them came in just 2 games. So he was shutout in 5 of 8. He'll probably need to show a bit more consistency in that regard.
