Minor Transactions - 2018 Offseason

Tom Wilson, coming off a career high 35 points, just signed a 6 year/5.17m aav deal.

But yeah, we should be able to sign Nylander for 6 or so.

But then there's Zucker's 64 points(31g and 33a) that netted him 5.5m aav.  Wilson's deal simply doesn't compute.

Zucker's 26 though and his year is pretty out of the ordinary for the rest of his time in the league. He effectively got a UFA deal. Signing RFA deals isn't so much these days about where players are, it's where they will be.

That?s a lot of money and term for a player who could hit 0.700 on the games suspended:goals ratio.

Like Zach Hyman out produced him playing his off-wing, albeit with the likes of Nylander and Matthews. Nazem Kadri is paid less and also outproduced Wilson?s best numbers during his worst season.

Agreed. I'm just curious where exactly they think Wilson will be?

Yeah, that's an interesting one. He was a first round pick of theirs so you'd suppose they think of him as someone with more offensive potential than he's shown but they took him in the 1st round after he had 27 points in 49 OHL games so who knows.

My guess is they put a very high value on his physical presence and think he can score to the extent that he's sort of a supercharged version of Zach Hyman or someone to that effect.

So Cody Ceci figures he is a $6 million player??  I guess Gardiner should be asking for $8??

I think everyone needs to realize players are always going to ask for MORE than they are actually worth.  How often does an arbitrator (in the NHL) pick the player ask or the team ask.  Its always somewhere in the middle.  If he thinks he deserves 4.5, he's not going to ask for 4.5, he's going to ask for 6.

BTW, he's not worth 4.5 either.

Wish they would go to an either/or arbitration process. I actually think the team's offer is rather fair.

I've always thought Stone was super-underrated but even I didn't realize he scored over a point per game last season (62 points in 58 games). And on that dumpster fire of a team! Impressive. A $9mil ask in arbitration might not have even been high enough.

Yeah, I think $9M is probably what he SHOULD get.  The 5M ask from the team is pretty much an insult.

I think they're just trying to get the number down as best they can, because the guy is likely to be traded anyways.

I must have missed this, but Stecher got bridged in Vancouver, $2.325 X 2.

He was supposed to be good, right?

He looks like he might be alright, but his numbers so far are underwhelming - though, he's doing better than most guys who go undrafted.

I know that Karlsson has only had 1 good year and I genuinely don't know what he is worth but the fact that this is essentially identical to the Ceci offers is hilarious.

Karlsson signs for 1 year, 5.25M.

Gibson signs for 8 years, 51.2M.

Just under Kadri's deal and well under Tom Wilson's (more UFA years on those two); kind of an overpay nonetheless.
