Nonis using depth to go shopping....

Since Calgary is in dumping mode, anyone think Nonis should take a run at Bouwmeester?  OK, he's overpaid, and is signed through next season, but he's a veteran presence on the blueline, might help having him around to soak up minutes and take some pressure off Phaneuf?  Yes/No/Crazy?

Enh. Rather have Bozak. :P

If only reason in bringing Jokinen is his SO record (30 goals on 66 attempts), it does not make much sense as Bozak not only seems to be the only Leaf capable regularly scoring on SO attempts, but he is actually more effective than Jokinen (3 goals on 4 attemps, and 7 goals on 12 attempts in his career - it is .750 (2012/13) and .583 (career) efficiency vs. Jokinen?s  N/A (2012/13) and .455 (career).

I think Feaster would want something back of legit value for him so...nah.

I was banking on Feaster being dumb.  ;)

Jussi Jokinen anybody?

When everybody's healthy, where does he play? There just isn't really a spot for him, and, considering he has another year at $3M on the cap, there needs to be if you're considering picking him up.

Saw an anonymous GM quoted saying that $3 mil cap hit next year is what has kept GMs from picking Jokinen up because of the cap crunch coming next season (from $70 mil to $64 mil)

I'd be stunned if Detroit does not go very hard after JayBo.

I don't know. It is Feaster.

I brought him up a few days ago. He'd be a perfect fit for this team in my opinion. He's a left handed shot but it also very comfortable playing the right side. That means he can either play on either side with Phaneuf on the top pairing or slide down to the second pairing with Gardiner and play on the right side.

I have no idea what it would cost to acquire him, but I would hope Nonis at the very least will look into it.

Phaneuf - Gunnarsson
Bouwmeester - Franson
Liles - Gardiner

I do like that.

I'd either buy out or trade Liles and put in Fraser instead (for cap reasons) and go with:

Gunnarsson-Phaneuf
Gardiner-Bouwmeester
Fraser-Franson

That's 5 lefties though, Carlyle's head might explode.

Forgot about Fraser  :o

My thinking was if you went with Bouwmeester - Franson you can play those first 2 pairings more and protect Gardiner somewhat on the 3rd pairing.

He couldn't want that much of value in return.  The guy is only signed for one more year.

Jokinen also has a larger sample size.  You get larger deviations with smaller sample sizes.  If Bozak had more shoot out attempts his numbers would likely go down.

Bouwmeester would be a good fit for the Leafs.  He has the experience at his position and would complement the team's defence.  Doubt Nonis will go for him but it's worth mentioning nevertheless.

Considering that he's earning slightly more than he's worth I think the one year term is actually a positive for his value, not a negative. This is 1st+ territory.

He is earning far above what he is worth, slightly is being very nice.  I do sort of  agree though, next year being his last year at that ridiculous salary is definitely a plus in trade negotiations.  Jay has been a huge disappointment in Calgary.  This year would be the time to deal him though, next year it is going to be harder to move these big contracts even at the deadline with the cap going down I would think.
