Nonis using depth to go shopping....

Bouwmeester is overpaid to some extent, but I'm reluctant to say that his contract is a significant overpayment. He's been very good as of recent and if his play continues, he'll probably get another contract in the same ballpark.

I notice a lot of people are down on him and it seems that his reputation took a big hit, probably because his career never took off in Calgary the way it was expected to...

But I'd like to see what he could do on a good team, like Detroit maybe.

Unless he blows the doors off next season, I would be utterly shocked if somebody signs him to another contract with a 6.68 mill cap hit when he would enter that season as a 31 year old.

Going into this trade deadline I just have no idea what Nonis is planning if anything.  With Burke you always had the sense of a big trade looming and if it didn't happen there was kind of an ere of disappointment.  In Nonis we know he is more patient and he is also seeing the fruits of Burke and his labour coming together.  If I had to go on a gut feel I think we see Bozak and Liles dealt if not both for picks/prospects.  I think we have enough on the farm to replenish these guys without seeing a huge drop off in our play.  We may finally see Grabs then bumped to the top line and maybe a guy like Connolly gets recalled or Colborne to take the 3rd line center spot and they get the final 11 games to assimilate before our playoff run.  Gardiner slots back into Liles spot and Komi or Holzer are brought back up to be our 7th D.  Those changes don't really make our club less effective and in turn we gain a couple picks in the process.  I honestly though wouldn't be surprised if nothing was done either.

The only way I see Bozak moving is for an important piece coming back to help the playoff run.

I disagree, Bozak won't be resigned as a UFA IMHO and I think we have both temp(Connolly) and long term(Colborne) in house options to offset his loss for the duration of this season.  It is a chance for Nonis to recoup something and not really suffer in a year that not a lot is expected especially with a playoff spot looking like a pretty sure bet right about now.  Way to be a seller with an eye for the future because a guy like Connolly is not going to net you anything at the deadline but indirectly he could still help us at the deadline by filling in for Bozak on our squad.

Not at 6.68 but in the same ballpark.

With another year at $4.25 million left?
Certainly worst risks to take when you are taking on a player and not giving up any assets.  They have lots of cap room and they are fine even next year with the cap going down.  With Ian White at a cap hit of 2.875 mill coming off the books as he is a UFA, I would call Kabs an upgrade over him next season if they keep him.  The Wings also don't have any guys that you could see go as a compliance buy out either so if push comes to shove and you needed the cap room for a big signing next season Kabs could be shown the door that way if things don't click.  You would have to think that Detroit is thinking they will have to make some noise before they go into rebuild mode as I am sure that is in their near future.

Yeah nobody touches that contract for what he's not producing. Kaberle of 3-4 years ago is a different story.

I was thinking, Tomas Kaberle circa 2005 would be an awesome addition to this team. Unfortunately the modern version just doesn't make the cut.

What do people think of Wideman? Calgary seem to be sellers, and he's a good D-man who produces on the PP.

I think he would be a great addition. Of course the asking price would be the determining factor..

4 more seasons at $5.25M per? No thanks.

Always saw him as a bit of a defensive liability

The asking price for any addition right now is too steep. Not worth the gamble for a rental. Don't want Boumeester or Wideman next season at $6.8 and $5.25 respectively.

Really? I thought the trades Pittsburgh made indicated the market was pretty soft.
