Who knew the Leafs were suddenly going to start throwing their $ around in the trade market. Next lockout is on the Leafs conscious

The Sens made it hail at Timmy's...ballin!

Oh and the trade was broken down by every media outlet as Franson for a 1st and Santorelli for Leipsic, but I value your opinion more.

Lol by who? Dregger and the boys who work for the Leafs? Show me all these unbiased breakdowns

I will, as soon as you explain to me how Winnick will never get a 2nd in return.

A basic understanding of human physiology at that age might give you a clue as to why that matters playing in the NHL against full grown men but I know you just like arguing.

Thornton had about 8 inches and 50 pounds on Samsonov. Honestly, man, just stop.

I thought he weighed a bit less. Having been 6'4 at 18 (thought 175-180) I can tell you it's an awkward time.

I did - they retained half of his salary essentially buying that 2nd rounder. And made a lot of new friends by driving up the market price on 3rd line rentals apparently at the same time.

Yup. Young players of that size can sometimes take a little longer to put all of their size and skill together. You know, like Anthony Mantha.

Thanks for not understanding the economic issues that resulted in the previous lockouts. Grade A stuff.

They bought a 4th rounder, not a 2nd. If you want to cover yourself at least claim that they could only get a 2016 2nd.

There you go Deebo. Another tool of the vast Maple Leafs media conspiracy.

I would consider it a conspiracy if it ever actually achieved anything of substance for the Leafs. Otherwise it's just a bunch of guys on TV who know who signs their paychecks.

You realize the a Leafs own TSN right?

So what? Bob McKenzie is a very respected journalist.

He's criticized the Leafs on many occasions.

You're wrong about this and were wrong about Winnik, its hilarious that you continue to claim you are right when you were clearly wrong.

Maybe its the Sens fans with an irrational hatred with the Maple Leafs that is the biased one.

Excellent points all. Clearly you're making honest, reasoned statements that really deserve serious responses.

They retained 161k of actual dollars.

How much do you think that increased his trade value?

I'll admit they got more meaningless draft picks for Winnik than I thought they would - you got me.

It's true and he might. For the record he's 6'5 and 217 now at 20 years old. He probably plays in the 225-230 range I'd guess.

I also think he gets ranked so high due to his size. Scouts get the horn for that and usually rank smaller guys a lot lower for the opposite reason (Gaudreau amongst others).

That's only 2 drafts though,  there aren't any results to evaluate them by yet. Which picks stand out to you as future impact NHL players?

Sure, but my praise was fairly muted there. I said they struck me as "pretty good" considering that we don't have a ton to base that on. I like the Nylander pick and there were definitely people in the Nick Ritchie or Nikolaj Ehlers camps. I like Gauthier and don't fall into the "only swing for the fences" side of things. I think Bibeau is putting up pretty solid numbers in the AHL for a 20 year old goalie. I thought Valiev looked pretty promising.

Considering they didn't have their 2nd round picks in either draft(and both picks were spent in pretty defensible deals) I think they look alright.

Nonis was involved in the Burke drafts so you shouldn't separate them.  Also if you don't 'swing for the fences' with the draft when will you?  Trade?  Not likely and if there is a deal it will cost an arm and a leg.  UFA?  Hasn't worked for the leafs so far and UFA contracts are guaranteed to be overpaid.

Nonis isn't a scout and he didn't have the final say in the Burke drafts. He was "involved" in the sense that he worked for the team but we have no way to know what he advocated for or what input he had. Ascribing them to him is nonsense.
