The idea being that the Leafs get what out of the deal? Just Vanek?

Also, and this is sort of unrelated, but are there a lot of teams in that sort of situation where they're likely to need fake cap hits just to hit the floor?

Maybe Carolina?

Yikes, that's an awful looking roster.

Could be a Grabner-esque deal as alluded to in the closing remarks, or it could spiral into other players and picks as well (less likely unless this is a draft day thing).

The proposed goal is shedding multiple contracts under the guise of adding an expensive 'underperformer'. We scratch their back by easing their hefty money load, they scratch ours with taking back contracts that they can use as they see fit, e.g. filling out their bottom six without having to go over $1M per player. If MIN is pushing to make the most of Parise and Suter et al now that they have tasted the playoffs a couple of times in a row, they might want to cycle their long term assets for some immediate gains.

After all, we've got a lot of B-level waiver eligibles to choose from.

It may be still good enough to beat our roster seeing as that team appears to always have our number.  LOL

15. Much of the pre-draft speculation surrounds Edmonton, and its willingness to make moves.

Another active club? Arizona. How busy? ?I don?t have enough experience to know what an active month looks like,? new GM John Chayka said last week, ?but moves involving prospects, draft picks, cap space?taking on a bad contract with an asset or assets to help another team?s space? Futures for roster players, roster players for roster players? It?s all been discussed. However, we have made one thing clear: we are not going to make our team worse. We are going to be competitive this year.?

With two first-round picks, seven and 20, could you move around? ?Fifty-fifty. We?re open for everything at this time. It?s such an open draft, I don?t think anyone?s ratings are similar. It will probably come down to the (draft) floor.?

Sup.

A trade negotiation fly on the wall documentary between this guy and Dubas would be fascinating.

Eh. Like I've said a million times, if you're in a market where selling tickets matters you're never going to admit to making your team worse.

I think a JvR would be a nice start for Chayka, for the low cost of Louis Domingue and their 2016 20th over all.

Philly does love their power forwards...

Gostisbehere is 4 years younger, makes a fraction of JVR's low salary, and put up the same PPG as a rookie defenseman as JVR has over his 4 years as a forward in Toronto.  That's a trade even Jim Benning wouldn't do.

Not really being serious other than the fact that they get back the player they traded in haste for Luke Schenn. Lol

Think of it this way.

With Lou being the Godfather and all, we'd just be returning JVR to the rightful owners we stole from at an unfair value.

Report: Strong chance Avalanche's Barrie could be traded

What do you think it'll take to pick up Barrie? Avs need everything, but probably don't want to spend.

My guess is either Pittsburgh's Pick/Leafs 2nd rounder + a defensive prospect (Loov?).  It might still be putting the cart before the horse, but something like that would at least be addressing an area of weakness.

How is Barrie defensively?  I've had him in my pool the last couple years, so I know he's great at putting up points, but I haven't really seen him play much.  Young, shoots right, could be a good fit (but I'm still partial to Vatanen).

There must be more to this because it doesn't make any sense that the Avs wouldn't invest here.

They need this guy, or someone just like him.

Patrick Roy is, well, kind of an idiot.
