Official Ottawa Senators Thread

This situation is really quite shocking.  And one would think that the organization would have handled it internally a long time ago.  I find it hard to believe that this story came out to the media the way it did.  I'm sure there are a lot of disagreements between teammates out there.  But it is very rare for the feuds to become public like this.

They were talking on Overdrive how there have been wives' spats in the past (from O'Neill and McLennan's stories) but back in the day before the internet all that stuff was gossip / face to face encounters.  Some wives would feel superior to others based on their husband's standing on the team etc.  With the Internet and cyber bullying it's taken to an entirely different level.

From what a lot of the supporters are revealing in their own comments, the Karlssons (Melinda in particular) really wanted to keep this out of the public eye, to be dealt with internally as a team (and adults) as you described, sickbeast.

Unfortunately, it crossed into criminality, and those records are public. We generally don't hear about this 'off-the-record' stuff from the beat coverage as they need to maintain relationships and access; I'm sure there is plenty around the league. This particular situation was broken by the Citizen's crime reporter.

I can't believe wealthy housewives don't have anything better to do with their time. Actually, wait a minute....

I wouldn't go too far down this road...many wives that are caring for children are also working part/full time.

I have to think in this case that the there would be some sort of electronic signature that they can chase.

No, I get that. I just find it comical that there's catty infighting in the first place.

I've learned that the less people have to do, the more they find time to complain.

Based on the allegations this is well, well beyond the point of catty infighting or disagreements or feuds. It's one person straight-up harassing another.

This is human nature.  You'll find those types of people in every walk of life unfortunately.  There's good people who are kind and respectful to others, and then there are people who only think about #1 first and foremost and don't care who they step all over.

Oh boy.  Could this be another Bryan Colangelo type situation?  Not saying it's the GM, but maybe someone high up in the organization?

That sort of thing is making me wonder about some of the ultra-homer accounts we've had here over the years.

I'm now scouring the web for any evidence that Cliff Fletcher likes coming up with really terrible nicknames for players.

James Duthie on TSN1050: ?Sad thing is from everything I am hearing we may not have heard the end of craziness out of Ottawa. There might be more coming down the chute. I don?t know what the more is yet, I?ve just heard there is more.? #Sens

Man, saying things like he has "first hand" knowledge that Karlsson wants to re-sign with Ottawa or that he knows the exact structure of the teams scouting group seem like pretty big red flags.

There's lots of people who make fake accounts and pretend to be insiders though.  It's a burgeoning Twitter industry, just check twitter during any trade deadline and you have scores of "insiders" posting.

That said, with some of the knowledge in those tweets, it makes you scratch your head.

Lol

Why yes, I am absolutely going to spend my afternoon revitalizing their Toronto Maple Leafs section that has lain dormant since November 2015.

So to step back from the tabloid-y nature of all of this...is there anything to say about why this is going on? Is it just that Melnyk's a terrible owner? A freakish run of bad luck?

I've long maintained that the Sens' situation, where they claimed to not be profitable in any year they didn't make the playoffs but seemed to be forced by their owner to try and be profitable every year, was the least manageable organizational gameplan you could have. Does all the penny pinching lead to corner-cutting that leads to this sort of chaos? I know it's hard to connect the Karlsson-Hoffman stuff to the team but I can't help but feel that maybe a more professional environment wouldn't allow for that sort of thing.

I think this post is deserving of more appreciation.
