Official Ottawa Senators Thread

That's what they say about me at work.

"He's not very good at his job, but go ahead and try to fire him. He'll crosscheck you in the face!"

"He's not a real good police officer...but man, if you're looking for a guy to taser you for speeding, he's your guy"

Arbitration has gotten pretty weird: they trade their underwear first.

You'd think that in the year 2020 people would know enough about arbitration that the replies to this tweet wouldn't be full of "I can't believe these numbers are so low/high!".

Anyway Brown's arbitration hearing is set for Thursday. If the case goes through Brown will get a 1-year deal and will be a UFA at the end of it.

I think what confuses some people is that they're not sure of the purpose of salary arbitration and whether it's meant to determine a players "worth" in concrete terms or is meant to provide RFAs with some sort of mechanism to approximate the market.

People also have trouble understanding two-way contracts (re: waiver exemption) and LTIR

If only there was some user-friendly salary cap and CBA knowledge base accessible to everyone online...

Brown's ask seems high at first blush, but looking at some of the comparables, it's not really that far out of line. He won't get that much, but he should get a fair amount more than the contract Ottawa is tabling.

I cringe so much every time I see a facebook comment saying the Leafs should just trade for a LTIR contract to increase their cap space.

This site is actually has the most knowledgeable posters that I'm on.

Connor Brown just signed a 3 year extension for $3.6M per.  Hyman is gonna get at least $5M  :-\

The midpoint of the two arbitration asks was $3.525mil so I guess this makes sense. He got more than what our trio of middle-6 forwards did, but also scored at a higher rate last season than they did. Question now is will he continue to get those prime scoring line roles with someone like Dadanov in the fold? Either way, considering the sens don't need to worry about the cap ceiling this is a fine deal to keep him around as opposed to him taking a 1-year deal and leaving as a UFA next year.

Good for Connor. He should be able to produce enough to justify that contract for the first couple years, at least. After that, I suspect he'll be pushed down the depth chart in Ottawa, as well.
