Official Ottawa Senators Thread

I`m gonna wait until we lose two straight games before I start flipping out.  As long as Craig Anderson can keep his save percentage above .960, and both Turris and Karlsson can stay at a point a game, we`re fine.

Kyle Turris is now the sens #1 centre?

Fantastic news for my fantasy team.

I`ve got Spezza and Hartnell.  Think Teddy Purcell can record 80 points?

Sounds reasonable.

Oof, if you guys like to laugh at the misery of the Senators, check out the highlights to this one.

Down 2-1 in the third, with about as poor a call as you're going to see, the refs turn the tying goal into a penalty kill for the Senators.  The game ended 2-1.

EDIT: Silfverberg interfering with Price;

Ya that penalty call was stunning, just absolutely terrible.  Though that clip here actually makes it look questionable, it's not doing it justice.  They had a couple other angles during the broadcast on CBC that really showed how bad it was.

Oh well, I'm sure we were owed some karma  :P

Maybe it's just me but it looks like he may be throwing his left elbow into the goalie - a little more than a mere turn to get the puck. I'm not certain but depending on the angle the ref saw it, I can see how it might look like intentional contact:

2. THE GOALKEEPER IS OUT OF THE GOAL CREASE.
...
D.  An attacking player makes other than incidental contact with the goalkeeper at the time a goal is scored.

A Minor and/or Major penalty, plus assessment of whatever other penalties may be appropriate up to and including Supplementary Discipline and the goal is disallowed.

69.4 Contact Outside the Goal Crease - If an attacking player initiates any contact with a goalkeeper, other than incidental contact, while the goalkeeper is outside his goal crease, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed.

A goalkeeper is not ?fair game? just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact.

"incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact."

He made no such visible effort to avoid contact.

So the question to me is whether that elbow was incidental or not. I'm honestly not positive one way or the other. But if I had to guess, my guess would be that it was intentional and therefore, a good call.

Doesn't look to me like he moves his elbow towards Price at all, and if it touched him at all it was just due to the act of turning.  Certainly doesn't look like he affected Price's ability to make the save.

Relative to his shoulder, the elbow does seem to go back some - not flagrant - just more than if he was just turning his body. The question to me is whether that happened because he was trying to position his stick to make contact with the puck or not. And that's where my uncertainty lay. The result does appear to move Price away from where he was intending to be on the short side a little - it wouldn't take much to cause a miss.

Again, I'm not absolutely sure. The other angles that I haven't seen might clear it up.

and there was no attempt when he made contact to kind of say "whoops - gotta avoid contact" though it happened so fast maybe he didn't have time to react.

If Karlsson doesn't lead defensemen in scoring this year, the rest of the team owes him a huge apology.

He's constantly making amazing plays that gets pissed away because the only player we have with any finish is Karlsson himself.  Someone tell Michalek to wake the hell up.

Didn't expect him to maintain his play from last season to be honest, but yeah... he's gotten even better this year from what I've heard.
