And here's a profile on Tom Wilson:

Like with Biggs last year, this just screams 'Burke-pick'. They'd probably have to trade up into the mid-20s to get him though.

It's mostly because his defensive ability is very high.

Yeah, that and his size. Also sounds like he's pretty good with the puck. Might be a nice fit for Kessel, though, he probably doesn't turn out as a true #1 centre type.

As for Wilson, from what I can see, he sounds like a Travis Moen type, which is a need in the organization and, from this draft, pretty good value in the 2nd round. I think I'd prefer Frk, though, if for no reason than he has no vowels in his name (and, he's likely a better talent).

A lot of good reading material from that site, actually. Here's a mock draft they did a few days ago:

Agreed. With Biggs scooped up last year, I would hope Burke tries to go for more of a home-run in the late 1st/early 2nd.

Yeah. I think, with the number of "safe" prospects in the system right now, the few picks the Leafs have outside the first should be used on a couple gambles/boom or bust types.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Considering the FA options are slim, and the players on the squad's market value have dramatically decreased, a homerun type pick is the only thing that can potentially improve the team. Burke certainly doesn't need a solid 3rd line grinder at this point to make the playoffs next year... and if they miss the playoff next yr, Burke must know his job is at stake with new ownership in place.

According to some mocks, Faska should be available in the 8-12 range. Seems we could have him with little trouble. Anyone know anything about him?

I'm going to the Rangers game tomorrow night so I'll scout him and Murphy and let you know. :)

Beauty!... and thanks for the profiles, Carlton.

I doubt Cox knows anything about the inner-workings of the Leafs management, and this isn't exactly shocking news, but:

Leaf draft game plan; get one of Grigorenko, Galchenyuk or Faksa up the middle. With 2nd pick, take big Tom Wilson of Plymouth. Away u go.

Why does Burke always guarantee things like this?  ;D

Does Not Matter Who They Play

Darn, we actually have a bit of a "light" sechdule (relatively speaking).  We play Carolina, Tampa and Montreal who are all bottom feeders.  Other than Columbus, the Islanders have a tough schedule and Minny may not win a game the rest of the year.

The Leafs lead NYI, Montreal, Edmonton & Minnesota by three or more regulation/overtime wins for the tie breaker. For those teams to pass the Leafs, they'll likely need to finish a point ahead.

With the Caps win last night, the magic number is 3.

Next Tuesday:

if the Caps beat Buffalo and the Leafs get a point or less from Carolina
OR
if the Caps get a point against Buffalo and the Leafs lose in regulation to Carolina

then the Leafs would become the 5th NHL team, joining Montreal, Edmonton, Columbus and Minnesota to be officially eliminated from the playoffs.

It's still a little shocking to acknowledge that. I thought they'd be a little closer this season.

Well, I think being "officially" eliminated is foregone conclusion it's just a matter of Tues, Wed or Thurs kind of thing.

From here on in, I want to see good efforts and losing in regulation by 1 goal.  That would probably be the best we could hope for.

Also, since (for 2 years now) Burke has said our good second-halfs have caused the team/management to base the summer off that (and not the first 50 games)... do you think this second half collapse will convince Burke otherwise or will he use the ol' "we were first in the NHL for a time (12 games?)".

Washington and Buffalo are tied with 84 points so I don't think it matters who wins, if the Leafs don't get points against Carolina they will be out.

Wasn't he already saying how good we were for the first half of the season? That guy never ceases to amaze.

A lot of people were saying the Leafs were good the first half of the season, and being 21-15-5 at the halfway point of the season I don't think anyone expected the meltdown that we have witnessed.

If the Caps win, the Leafs have to win, or they're out. The Leafs can't catch Washington in terms of ROW, so, only being able to tie them in the standings would eliminate them. If Buffalo wins, the Leafs need at least a point to not be eliminated.

EDIT: Ottawa is technically still in play. If they don't win tonight, the Leafs won't be officially eliminated tomorrow if they gain a single point.
