Oilers @ Leafs - Nov. 1st, 7:30pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Just an historic game for Naz. Two goals going head-to-head with McDavid, literally on the last one. I think he'll remember this one for a long time.

This game is going to be massive for Kadri, he plays his best when he wants to prove himself, let's hope he can take that confidence and use it positively going forward.

Why don't we play this way at least every home game (sic Naz on the other top guy)? Waved defense at every incursion in reach, playing really really annoyingly... this is what Kadri's line should be every night.

Babs has been in Kadri's corner and that why he got his long term deal IMHO. Make no mistake Kadri is a guy that can be leaned on. His 5 goals to date are 4 more than he had at same time last year. Took him until Dec. 5 last year to pot his 5th. Also, last year he was competing really only with Bozak for top minutes. This year, he is competing both with Bozak and Matthews.

My Leafs 3 stars for the game are:
1. Kadri
2. Brown
3. Soshnikov

Honorable mentions to Anderson and the Matthews line.

I had completely forgotten they signed him to that 6-year deal this offseason. For some reason I thought he was on his final year deal this year.

I really think Kadri can become a Brad Marchand player...pest, defensively solid with some offensive skills.

I would like to take this time to remind everyone that the Oilers should be everyone's least favourite team and we should be rooting for them to fail horribly.

From the near-extortion of city council for a ridiculously expensive publicly funded arena to building their team through failure they are the epitome of everything wrong in modern sports.

If they do end up winning tonight or having success this year or future years, ask yourself, what does that mean? What bragging rights would an Oilers fan legitimately have because of that success? We all know pro sports is inherently an illogical thing but shouldn't it mean something, anything, more than failing your way upwards?

Their owner's a dink, the local media carries their water and they're just a product of rewarded incompetence. If this were an 80's action movie they wouldn't be the villain, they'd be the villain's weasel sidekick.

Their arena should burn down and Connor McDavid should retire to take up the flute.

Tell us how you really feel Nik.

I hate piling on the guy, but it's amazing how many great plays from Matthews and Nylander have absolutely nothing to do with Hyman.

Yeah, but:

A) I think right now you need a good defensive player as their 3rd.

B) That Hyman isn't immediately the ideal 3rd offensively for them doesn't necessarily mean you should give up on developing him into one.

I think that you're right about Point A, but there's probably other options available. We of course might be seeing an obvious candidate emerging tonight in Sosh.

My big issue is whether or not Babcock truly believes how big of an effect Hyman's had on those twos offensive success (which is actually little-to-none) or if he's just pumping his tires to the media. Because that line's only scored 2 even-strength goals since the home opener. At some point something has to give.

Ouch. And, the thing is, Matthews and Nylander are generating a lot of quality chances. As long as the Leafs have Bozak cluttering up the Cs, makes sense to let Matthews and Nylander develop together, split face offs, etc. So, I'm all for them sticking together -- but, if Hyman doesn't have the skills or instincts to be developed into their defensively responsible 3rd (and I haven't seen much to indicate he can), why not give someone else a shot? Griffith, Holland, Brown, Leivo all seem options worth trying out.
