By golly does hockey in the 70s look like every skater was a smoker.

Boy you aren't kidding.  That gametape looked like it was slo-mo.

Some of it is the equipment advancement, but just judging by body proportions, these guys were just regular schmoes.

My guess is the difference is mostly training and conditioning.  And the goalies of that time were, for the most part, not nearly as athletic.

Also those masks were largely cosmetic, so no biggie if it goes in instead of hitting the face.

Heh, that sure would have been my go-to mindset.

Nice, a Tim's infomercialosh "feature."

To that point, I don't understand the commercial they have going where the coach and kids are all excited about a "please play again" rollup. If it's comedy, the whole tone at the end is wrong.

The Leafs played a much more physical game in the 2nd. It made a big difference.

Muzzin is so slow. He makes Gauthier look like Kapanen. He's also freaking huge compared to the rest of the team. He looks good though. Just slow. Really really slow.

I'm hoping somehow he's not really that slow.  But yeah he looks like he can play the position.

Sometimes a longer stride can give a lethargic appearance.

Rielly at his best is a 4th forward who also happens to know how to skate backwards.

Hyman is a big Easter Island moai: dude gets to his spot and you have to basically kill him to move him out of there. Nice to see him punch one in.

Looks like Tavares made a nice heads up tip pass on this too.

Hmmm some of those big Rapanui faces are facedown now, you know.  ;) :o :o

See Muzzin lead with the stick to the puck and force Guentzel to think about two things at once? The hit?s superfluous after that but this will placate much of the fan base?s lust for seeing big guys mash their bodies together.

It's nice to see the Leafs get some success by simply getting the puck to the net and converging on rebounds. That's two of the three goals.

They do seem to tend to want to pass the puck into the net as preference... hopefully this changes the mindset a touch.

Tavares and Hyman shovelling together is scary. They almost score.

Nylander pulls in a wide shot-pass and nearly tucks one home too.

With the skill level on this roster that was always going to be the biggest thing to overcome as a team, hence Babcock?s work before skill mantra.

Why would Dermott ice it there?  Thinking he can hit the net and misses. Real poor feel there.  And then does it again.  Dermott doesn?t think the game well.

It?s only the back-to-back Stanley Cup winner Pittsburgh Penguins, but Sparks has looked focused and quiet all game. He got beat high on a couple of nice shots when the defense and forwards were scrambling against good pressure, but he has kept the Leafs within striking distance all game.
