All 18 voters disclosed their ballots to TSN.ca on the condition of anonymity.

Crosby captured his first Conn Smythe with nine first-place votes. Kessel finished just behind Crosby with seven first-place votes. Kris Letang earned the other two first-place votes.

(Full disclosure: I was one of the 18 voters and my ballot was 1. Kessel, 2. Martin Jones, and 3. Crosby.)

Kessel finished with more second-place votes (eight) than Crosby (five). The NHL uses a 5-3-1 format to calculate the votes: five points for first, three points for second, one point for third.

The final point total based on that system and the information obtained by tsn.ca: Crosby 63, Kessel 60.

Crosby edged Phil out by basically a single vote.

Good.  Crosby still deserves it more.

Phil Kessel has officially chosen to host his day with the Stanley Cup in Toronto next month. The city remains his second home.

PHIL!

Anyone else, I'd say that was kind of a low blow. As is, I hope Phil has himself a very good time with it.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be a rub it in move. It's just Phil, a simple dude. He's happy he won, wants to share it with friends. And he still partially lives here. Happy for him.

Kessel has Hand Surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel had surgery on his hand Friday and expects to be ready for training camp in September, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Saturday.

"It was something he dealt with all season," Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford told the newspaper. "It bothered him. He took care of it. He's not expect[ed] to miss any time."

Kessel shares his Stanley Cup day privately in Toronto with friends.

Nor fanfare.  Well maybe a little...

A bunch of reports on social media say that he brought the Cup to the Sick Kids hospital. Awesome.

The trade had to happen.  The scenario that led up to the trade (allowing the media to act like wild ferrets against Kessel and having a coach who did dick all to protect the players from it) did not.

I keep leaning on the idea that without that trade we don't get Matthews... but god damn how amazing would it be right now if we had both (and Nylander and Marner).

What a sweet thing to do.  And to top it all off in Toronto,  superb!

Phil (the incredible).  A nod to you, Mr. Kessel.

I love that Phil took it to Sick Kids, and did so without announcing it well beforehand.  What a champ.  He really wasn't a good fit with the Leafs, given our situation at the time, but I was always a fan of his.

I've always thought he comes off as just a genuinely nice guy (who tries hard, loves the game) and his teammates always seem to back that up so not entirely surprised he did that.  Just seems like a good dude.

I love Phil as well, although at one point I loved my ex wife but she had to go!!! ;)
Good work with the kidz Phil, you are one class act.
