if i was Kessel i wouldn't want to come back to toronto. constantly being ripped on by the media and fans, i would want go somewhere where i'm wanted and not being scrutinized because i haven't scored in two games.

And people wonder why the Leafs can't win at home.

Don't forget injuries. Your excuse for the Leafs losing is usually media, fans, and injuries.

If the team brings that your not pushing us around attitude they just employed in Montreal then Im sure the crowd will be right behind the team cheering loud.

Play-offs experience and provided Kessel scores few goals may do the miracles. Given the almost decade long play-offs drought here, he would be a hero in Toronto plus if the Leafs keep Joffrey and Tyler, there no reason for him to go anywhere.
Not to mention that at least to me he does not appear to be annoyed by media or all the atention hckey gets in Toronto.

Kessel's agent was interviewed this morning and said Kessel loves playing in Toronto and would love to remain a Leaf.  Guess he's starting the public relations move of going for a long term extension.

That's good. I don't think the Leafs could easily replace his skillset, which is much more than just scoring goals.

Good. I've heard him say it more than once, so it only makes sense that he wants to stay. I think the players in Toronto are confident in the team they have and expect things to get a whole lot better in the near future.

I know if I was a part of something and put in a lot of effort to change the teams fortunes, I wouldn't leave just before it was going the good way. I'd want to be a huge part of it.

Now the question is, what's the price?  I assume Kessel will want term, 7-8 years and may take less for the length.  8 years, 6.5M cap hit?

I wouldn't read much into that. That's more or less what every impending free agent in any sport says when asked. There are some great Lebron quotes from '10 about how much he loves Cleveland.

Has any agent ever said the opposite about their client?

He likely does love Cleveland.  He was born in ohio after all.

Well, he was born in Akron. I'm sure there are a lot of people born in Toronto who don't much care for...anywhere in Ontario that isn't Toronto.

Regardless, it didn't help them retain his services.

It is not funny anymore to keep counting the number of posts and crossbars he has hit so far this season. I have been watching hockey for more than 2 decades and I can not recall a single player hitting a post so often. If he had converted half of those he would have scored 10 goals already. Anyway, I am pleased to see his much improved (or perhaps just more visible) playmaking. He is a keeper.
