R2, G2: Panthers @ Maple Leafs - May 7th, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

I have been finding myself very calm in these situations so far.I just have a lot more confiden ce that the D/goalie won't give up an easy one.

They held serve. Again.
To me this is the biggest difference in this team this year, we're not folding when things get tough, our D is so much improved and we have the best goalie tandem this team has ever had, gotta get Matthews and the PP going but I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Apparently you forget when the Leafs had Cujo and Potvin on the roster at the same time. 😃

Dude. Me too. I’ve never been this calm watching Leafs playoff games.

I had a lot of faith in Stolarz stopping pucks but Woll ain’t bad either.

The Leafs have been better at not giving up grade A chances. Not a lot of 2-on-1’s, odd-man rushes or breakaways.

Gotta keep it going. 💪

Just coming back on to express my love for OEL. Watched the replay of the Willy goal several times. Benoit coughs it up and OEL ever-so-casually reaches out to deflect the puck, not just out of harm's way in front of Woll, but up the ice to start the scoring play. He's the perfect third-pairing defenseman.

To extend the postgame quote of our coach: "No stage is too big for him." These Swedes are icy calm.

Keys to playoff offense
- be quick
- make it messy (screens, deflections)
- check your slot hard to generate turnovers and subsequent rushes
- forecheck diligently to generate turnovers to generate messy chances

They did it!

Pacioretty: quick shot to a screen+deflection. PP2 might not be as skilled or creative, but they have a plan and just try hard to execute in very limited minutes.

Nylander: packed the slot and pounced on a soft low-high pass by Tkachuk and Pacioretty zoomed in with a slot pass against the grain to mess with Bob’s depth; boo, backhand breakout/bailout passes btw. OEL saved Benoit's bacon.

Domi: DZ turnover generated speedy rush with a similar drop back pass through the slot and decisive shot; Domi noted that the team was playing very connected, and that is highlighted here in a temporary line that hasn't really had any minutes together before, but everyone knows their role. Domi scoops up the rebound (very Badry Tkachuky shot attempt by Matthew), taps it to Lorentz, who sends it up for Laughton who motored hard to stretch out the D gap. Laughton hands it off to a sprinting Rielly, who quickly changes the puck lane with a bump to an even faster Lorentz, who lays out the sauce (and another lane change) to Domi. Florida's forecheck usually wins pucks, but if the Leafs can keep shedding that first layer, it's only 3 players to rush through the other way.

Marner: hella quick shot through just enough traffic (Knies screen)
This one's a bit like the one Stolarz gave up to Sanderson in Game 4 OT from the other side.

I wanted bloody murder at the start of that game, with Marchand slew-footing two people, including Woll, within the first 10 minutes of the game. I am shocked how composed the Leafs were. I cannot believe Marchand wasn't jumped after knocking down Woll, and I am not sure he shouldn't have been.

The refs were pretty awful, with no reason or rhyme as to what would be called next. The short-handed interference against the Leafs was a mind-boggling missed call. Imagine they scored on that. The embellishment call was wild. Was it because he put himself in a bad spot trying to get a call?
