Ranking Prospects 2020-2021

Where you got Amirov?

Haven't thought about it very much yet, as I've only seen highlights, which are skewy. He strikes me as similar to Nylander in puck control, attack style, offensive-focus, and starting out pretty young in a full mens league getting inconsistent opportunity. Not nearly the shot/vision as Nylander, but he's starting with a better base of defensive instinct.

My top chunk, given very little research beyond what I've already gleaned in draft coverage:
Tier 1: Matthews
Tier 2: Marner, Nylander
Tier 3: Sandin, Robertson, Amirov
Tier 4: Dermott, Liljegren
Tier 5: Abruzzese, Abramov, Anderson, Hirvonen, Niemela, Korshkov, Engvall, Malgin
Notable (to me) projects: Der-Arguchintsev, Ovchinnikov, Miettinen, Brazeau, Hollowell, Koster, Villeneuve

Watching the video clips in the article, I can definitely see some potential. He seems to read the play well and isn't afraid to be a little more aggressive. He needs to tighten up his east-west movements when he doesn't have the posts to stop him, but that's something that should be able to be improved by working with the development team. If he can get that under control, he looks like he has potential to be an NHL caliber goalie.

Yeah I mean they were both middle of the road goalie prospects coming into 19/20. Almost every team had a Woll or Scott or someone even better. And they both had pretty awful 19/20 seasons. Admittedly Scott's wasn't his fault of course but it still set him way back and like I said it's not as if he was considered a top goalie prospect prior to that.

Definitely and Woll isn't done yet either.

He's not done, but he needs to show something this season. He wasn't good in 19/20.
It was his first year out of College hockey so i'm not putting much into it. This year though, should be telling.

True, but two consecutive seasons with poor results would be a big red flag for his NHL future.

I think Scott raised his stock pretty significantly with his 18/19 performance. .932 SV% and named CHL goaltender of the year. Based on his most recent performance, there still appears to be some upside there.

Goalie development is weird. I wouldn't try to forecast ability the same way as a skater.

SDA suffered a knee-on-knee collision at the end of November that has taken him out of KHL play. He's fine and likely to be back on the Marlies in 2021.

The knock on Der-Arguchintsev is his diminutive, 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. But of the KHL?s physical play, he said he ?didn?t find it difficult at all.?

That said, he encountered one instance of physicality he?ll always remember: when he faced off against Yekaterinburg Automobilist and his idol, Pavel Datsyuk.

?When I was a kid, all the stuff I learned on the ice was from him,? said Der-Arguchintsev.

In the third period, with Torpedo up 5-1, both players skated towards a loose puck. It didn?t end up well for Der-Arguchintsev. But like so much of his shortened season, he took it in stride.

?He hit me and I couldn?t breathe for a couple of minutes,? he said. ?After the game, I just saw him and I said ?It was an honour to get killed by you,? because it was so cool for me. He said, ?It was 5-1, you guys didn?t need the puck, you were already winning.??

This is the cutest thing.
