Is this good

I know they are relying more on stats but it seems kind of odd to compare a 5'9 160lbs player with a hell of a shot to a 6'1 210lbs powerforward with a heck of a shot regardless of how their production is similar.

I was thinking the same.

That is some defensive coverage that orange team has going on there.

The attack funnel they're using is designed to confuse the defensive coverage. Watch the Ufa players cycle up the wall and attack down the middle lane. As Amirov rolls up the flank, his defenseman (56) slips into the centre facing the play and draws off his check and into another one. Amirov takes full advantage of the new space.

Good catch. They're basically cycling in the high slot. Something you normally only see in the corner. If used effectively(as it was there) it could be a real nice strategy.

I feel this is something that the Leafs do on a regular basis as well.

It's definitely more common place to engage the defense more and more in the NHL. It's one of the reasons you see Rielly moving so much. As teams play a tight dice pattern in the defensive zone against the Leafs, it has allowed the leafs to play like they are on a Powerplay at all times when on the attack. Part of the benefit of having such a skilled team. I'm not sure on the numbers, but it seems the Leafs offensive zone time is up over previous years. That's just an eye test though.
Now, what the leafs need to figure out is how do they penetrate the tight box/dice pattern that the teams are playing. The Oilers did it through both games last week. We will see it again tonight. Zone defense is what stops offensive teams like the Leafs.

A lot of teams saw what Columbus flustered the vaunted Leafs offense with; they let us gain the zone but box out and wait for a cheap pass across the top and it's breakaway time. Leafs should take a page out of Tampa's playbook: never park players on the net front but sweep screens across to pull open the structure timed with incursions down the middle. So often our hard-earned OZ possessions are wasted on a low-high pass to a panicked slapper from the point into an easy block or save.

I was thinking of actually letting Matthews and Nylander fire some chin high shots into the bottom 3 defenders for the first period. and then when they attempt to stand in the slot later in the game, they'll have some second thoughts on the matter. "First shot for the head, next shot along the ice"

In Scott Wheeler's annual prospect pool rankings, the Leafs made the biggest leap up among all teams, going from #21 to #13.

Starting to hope that Korshkov can play for the Marlies when the KHL season winds down.  I think he has third line potential on the Leafs.  Certainly 4th.

Man, if Amirov and Hallander turn into top 6 forwards (even top 9 forwards), the Kapanen deal is going to look even more lopsided than we already think it to be.
