Sibir was set to face off against Salavat Yulaev Ufa for the Gagarin Cup playoffs, so now he won't be chatting with Amirov as they both warm the benches. Likely going to find a different KHL landing spot for now, but the possibility to jump to NA is open now.

Edit: I spent 5 minutes researching and writing that up there and they just tweeted it out.
Get him over here, along with Amirov.

His game is more North American in style (get to the slot) instead of MHL style (shoot from the blue line). The jersey in this photo looks like he went to Greendale Community College.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov to a three-year entry level contract, beginning with the 2021-22 season. Ovchinnikov will join the Toronto Marlies immediately upon the approval of his Canadian work permits.

Not gonna lie, feels kinda early to bring him over. Let's see where it goes though.
Seeing he's 19, can the Leafs "loan" him to the OHL if they find a taker or does he need to be drafted to one?

Go Human Beings!

Yeah, I think it's a bit early for his hockey development, unless he is amenable to playing in the ECHL. However, if Ovchinnikov has the ambitions and the drive to play in the NHL, then this is good business for him to tap into the Leafs org resources, hands on dev time, and start his acclimation while he is still very unencumbered with other personal responsibilities. He'll also have Abramov and Der-Arguchintsev to help ease the process.

Also, juuuust a touch safer to play here than somewhere on the cusp of actual war.

Yeah my concern might just be more in terms of him jumping to a new continent for the first time as a 19-year old in the middle of a season. It's going to be a lot to take in, especially since I don't think he really knows the language yet. Is Antropov still around to help acclimatize him to things?

ECHL/AHL seems like a better option for him than barely seeing the ice in the KHL, and he doesn't have anything else to prove at the lower levels in Russia. He was already a dominant player in the MHL (33 goals and 80 points in 62 games between this season and last).

Antropov is still the Skills and On Ice Development Consultant for MLSE.

I suppose. Although I really wouldn't want to see him in the ECHL right now, especially with whole first time in NA thing and the fact that the Growlers don't exactly have a large Russian presence to help him feel comfortable with. I'd rather just see him practicing with the Marlies/Leafs skill coaches than that.

That's fair, and I'd also prefer he work with the Marlies/Leafs than the Growlers. My comment was more about him having really no hockey reasons to stay in Russia.

Hope his work permit clicks in before WWW3.  Seriously, I think this is a very interesting move, get Amirov over as well.  Let them develop over here, with total hands on by the development staff.

Well...I guess they think he's AHL able....I didn't get the feeling that he was that good yet.
Well he's done well in the MHL over there so I guess like any kid that's done well in junior the next place to go is the AHL. He will get better development here and there are plenty of Rus players here already. Probably the best fit for him right now.
